Greetings! I know it has been a while since I've posted anything for Forever. I've been absorbed in a Flash series but have opted to take a little break to write up this little piece. It is just a bit of silliness that popped into my head once when Henry died and nearly lost his pocket watch. Comments are welcomed! Not my properties and I make no monies from this! I am sans Beta (I'm a beta killer... mwahahahaha). All mistakes are my own, but I have done my best! Thanks - CT
Side note: Anyone interested in either a Flash/Forever crossover or a Forever/NCIS crossover? I've started one of each but am even wondering if anyone else would read. If I get enough interest I might pick them back up!
Absent Minded
Kristen Jones had started out the day miserable. Between spilling her coffee, forgetting her lunch, and getting rained on, she had diagnosed it as a bad day. In her defense, she had slipped into the half-conscious mode where she functioned just enough to get by. "Have a good day," she droned as the customer she had just finished helping walked away. With a deep sigh she told the computer she was ready for the next person in line and enjoyed her brief reprieve as she waited for the customer to approach.
"Goodness, Kristen, you look miserable," Henry Morgan said as he took the seat across from her desk. Recognizing his voice, Kristen looked up and smiled brightly.
"Henry! What on earth are you doing back here?" He was a regular, and they had struck up a sort of friendship.
"I'm afraid I need to replace my identification card again," Henry admitted looking sheepish.
"Already?" Kristen's eyes widened in surprise. "Honestly Henry, how do keep track of anything?" At his rueful smile she shook her head in amusement. "That makes the third one this month." As she spoke she started the process of issuing him a new one. Henry Morgan lost his identification more often than anyone else she knew. The first time she had issued him a new one, she had fussed about it. Now, lord only knows how many later, she just teased and went about the task of getting him a new one.
"It has been a rather rough month," Henry answered honestly. It was perhaps the best part of death. It gave him an excuse to come in and visit with Kristen. "How are your boys?"
"Oh, Albert is down with a cold," Kristen typed while she spoke. "My mother is watching him. I just hope it doesn't go into pneumonia again."
"Well, just keep an eye on him. He's what, three?" Henry liked Kristen, with her wild red hair and dark brown eyes she was a beauty, but seemed unaware of it.
"Nearly four now," Kristen agreed. "What about you? How's Abraham doing?"
"Oh, happily complaining about getting older," Henry replied.
"My parents complain all the time," Kristen agreed. "Danny, the seven year old, has discovered Star Wars. Now he's obsessed."
"Is that the movie?" Henry thought he'd heard something about it. He wasn't certain.
"Movies. A cartoon now as well. Really Henry, you should come over some time. My boys and I will fill in some gaps you have in your culture." She grinned at him and leaned back. "Your new ID is printing. You know where to pick it up."
"Thank you, Kristen. As always, you've been wonderful. Keep offering and maybe someday I'll meet those rowdy boys of yours." They shared a chuckle and Henry stood, nodding a good-bye to her before heading to the other counter to pick up his new card. At least Kristen made it relatively painless. Dying was hard enough on his life and his wardrobe. Being able to replace his identification card so easily made life a bit more tolerable. Her smile certainly brightened his day.
Smiling to himself, Henry took the card held out to him by the woman at the desk. He glanced at it once to ensure that it was the right one, before slipping it into a pocket and heading back out into the chaos of the city.
