"I know it's short notice, and snoggletog is tomorrow I thought you should have it. You could use it for tomorrow, I mean if you want too", he said.
Astrid could tell that he was nervous, she glanced down to the small bundle of cloth tied in twine in his hands
"So..here." With a gentle shove he gave the present to her. Astrid could tell the particle in the cloth was no bigger than her palm, and her curiosity peaked. She plucked the twine away, glancing up to the blushing young man; furiously twisting his hands together. She looked down and pulled the corner of the cloth from the present. What she saw took her breath away.
Nestled in the cloth was one of the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. It was a hand made brooch, one she hadn't scene or made in the village. Instead of it being a simple round silver broach like her others, this was that of a dragon. Her dragon, Stormfly. The likeness of it was uncanny. The silver alone that was used to make it was beautiful but if you looked closely or turned it slightly you could see glimpses of transparent minuscule scales. He had even gone a far a to put in yellow gemstone for the brooches eyes.
"Tuff Nut..did you make this?", she asked.
"Uh yeah I just thought, well you know… you would like something you could use. And remind you of Storm Fly.", he said scratching the back of his head. "I didn't know you could make stuff like this.", she exclaimed.
"Well Hiccups' not the only one who can make cool stuff." and there is a lot of stuff you don't know about me, he thought.
"Here help me put it on." Handing Tuff nut the brooch she unhooked the one she had. Tuff nut silently gulped and stepped toward to Astrid. 'Stop shaking !' he thought to himself. It was bad enough she thought so poorly of him and Ruff nut, he didn't need to add on to it by poking Astrid in the chest with the very brooch he had made.
Astrid looked down at the brooch that clearly shown how much work had been put into it.
"Thank you Tuff Nut it's beautiful." She would keep it well into her age; when the dragons would eventually leave she would need to remind her they where once there and not a dream. For a moment the two looked at each other words escaping the both of sound of horn being blown jolted them out of thought.
"I guess we should get ready for the tournament, Ruff nut would hate it if I don't get there."
"And I promised Hiccup I would meet up with him too. So I'll see you there?" With a chuckle they gave each other a hug, and walked toward the waiting dragons.
