A/N: I honestly had a lot of fun writing this. I know it's a little late for Christmas, but I hope everyone enjoys it regardless.

Taichou - Captain
Fukutaichou - Vice Captain/Lieutenant
Renji knew better than to anger his Taichou. Hew knew he must tread lightly around the man, like walking on eggshells, unless you wished to have an unhappy man put his zanpakutoh through you.
But it was around this time of year that Renji got tired of the cold, careless, ruthless Taichou's attitude. It was the season of giving. Joy to the world, peace on Earth, and all that. Not that there was any point for Soul Society to celebrate Christmas, but it was something they did anyway, and something they enjoyed.
Well, most enjoyed it.
Renji Abarai was not a very intelligent man, nor was he very quick to catch on, but he was very ruthless when it came to plotting against his Taichou.
And so, on Christmas Eve, at Soul Society's annual party, the Fukutaichou of sixth division did something no one would ever forget.
As he walked over to his Taichou who was standing under Yachiru's strategically placed mistletoe, he smiled.
"Taichou," he greeted as he stopped before the slightly shorter man. The response he received was a slight nod. "Are you enjoying the party? Unohana-san did a great job with the decorations, didn't she?"
"What do you want, Renji?" The question came as a slight surprise to him.
"Wh-what do you mean, Taichou? I-"
"You never make small talk at these parties, Abarai-fukutaichou. What do you want?" The hardened man repeated his question with more force this time, regarding Renji coolly.
The Fukutaichou flushed, for a reason he didn't know, and glanced up at the mistletoe above his Taichou's head.
"I-well, that is..." He stammered for a moment, then with a sight, decided to act.
"Merry Christmas, Byakuya," he stated with a small smile, then pressed his lips to the shorter man's, quickly drawing away.
And as the room grew silent, and all began to stare at the two, two whispered words, so simple, ignited Renji's heart.
"Thank you."
