Because We Couldn't Say Goodbye

(A/N: This is just a little poem talking about Kairi's feelings and thoughts for Sora from KH to KH2. Hope you like it!)

All was well and the same as always.

The sun in the sky and our feet in the waves.

We did the usual stuff,

Those things that kids do.

The laughter, the friendships,

Stories of the paopu.

How sharing it would intertwine

the destinies of two

and though we never shared one

it still came true.

After that fateful night

When we were taken from our home

By ourselves in darkness or light

We learned to grow up on our own.

It was a strange feeling

Being torn apart

My body was trapped in darkness

But my light was in your heart.

I could not see your face

And could not tend your wounds

But I know that you thought of me

Under the stars and the moons.

You fought your hardest to find me

But I was with you all along

And your warmth and kindness flowed gracefully

Like the notes of a song.

I can remember your courage

And how it gave you strength

How you would never give up

And how you kept your faith.

Your belief that you would find me

And travel to every world if you must

Just to show that you cared

And could give me all of your trust.

And after you freed me from your heart

And brought me back to the light

I looked at you and thought

That you would no longer have to fight.

But that didn't happen

And my wishes didn't come true

You disappeared into darkness

Before I could say, "I love you."

Thankfully you reappeared

Not in your normal form at first.

But seeing you once again,

My emotions began to burst.

You protected me the first time

And now it was my turn to protect you.

So I grabbed your body

And you reappeared to say "Thank You"

Oh how I wish you would have said something else

Those three small special words

And still waiting for you to say them

So much so that it hurts.

I love you too much to give up on it

And I'll wait forever if need be

Because I cannot live without you

And I know you can't live without me.

We've been through so much

And I wish you didn't have to leave

Because I didn't want to let you go

And it hurt too much to grieve.

As our hands slipped apart

I told myself not to cry.

We knew for us, it wasn't the end

Because we couldn't say goodbye.

I remember that promise you made to me

Your promise that you'd return.

And as long as you remembered it

The love in our hearts would burn.

I sat here too long

And I still waited for you to come back

So that after you came back to me

I could give you a good smack.

Smack you because you left me

To wait on this island here

To wait to hold you again

After waiting for a year.

Luckily, help comes

From unexpected places

And I got to see you again

And see the joy in our faces.

And after that last battle

We were together again

But now we were older

And you were much more than a friend.

I still wait for those three words

Here with you under the sky

But I know, in time, you'll say them to me

Because we couldn't say goodbye.
