Bookends
"Did this year turn out well, dear?" Hermione's mother asked her. It had been Hermione's last year at Hogwarts, and her parents were completely fascinated with the whole "magic" thing. Hermione gazed out from the frosted window, where she could barely make out the Hogwarts Express in the distance. She sighed before answering, "This year was probably the best year I ever had." Her eyes filled with tears, with the thoughts of how much she loved Hogwarts. She tried to savor every last minute of it. On the train, Ron and Harry kept rejoicing in the fact that they didn't have to see Snape again. They had asked her what was wrong, but she had just acted as if she couldn't hear them, and was concentrating on reading her book. But the words kind of melted together on the pages, going out of focus, while she tried to contain her tears. She knew she'd seen Ron and Harry a lot still, but she knew things would be different. Usually, she talked to her parents ears off with her constant chatter about the year and the adventures she embarked on. Of course, she left all the romantic material out of the stories!!! Just then, her mum reached over and switched on the radio. Her mum was humming along with the song "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds". She and her mother were huge Beatle fans. After the song ended, one of Hermione's favorite songs came on. She always thought the words were beautiful, but now, they were more meaningful to her situation and feelings. It was "Bookends", by Simon and Garfunkel She had come upon the album while looking through her mom's collection. Anyways, the song was short and sweet, and to the point. That's also why she loved it so much. She smiled and closed her eyes, reliving some of the best memories at Hogwarts. Like when she became best friends with Ron and the "Boy who lived". Or the first Yule Ball. Or….. There were so many more…….
Time it was
And what a time it was
It was
A time of innocence
A time of confidence
Long ago, it must be
I have a photograph
Preserved of your memories
They're all that's left of you
She touched her only "magic" photo album lovingly. A single tear escaped from her eye before she fell asleep………………………………………………………………………..
