Chapter 1
Ashley paced back and forth, tears streaming down her face. It had only taken one look away from the road to answer her cell phone and her Escalade had been planted with the back of the car against a telephone pole and two construction signs.
She had been able to get out of the vehicle and call 911 but Faith and her car seat had been crushed against the side of the car. She had been able to wrench the car door open on the opposite side, but wasn't able to get the car seat out and was afraid to move Faith. She had waited there for the emergency personnel , stroking Faith's hair and singing as she tried to comfort her.
***********
Victor Newman had just returned from Belgium when he got a text from Ashley about Faith and had Nicki drive him to the hospital. His fury knew no bounds. How could Ashley be so careless? She had lost children before and should have grown more careful.
************
Adam helped Sharon down onto the couch in Brad's old living room and smiled at her gentle sigh. "Okay?" he said, focusing on her face. He heard a noise off to the right but didn't want to turn away from her just to see.
"Yes," Sharon said, smiling tentatively. She turned to Noah who had just walked into the room and said, "Noah—what is it?" He looked frantic and she didn't think it was just because she was coming home with Adam.
"Mom, um Victor just called me…" Noah began, his eye darting back and forth. He wanted to meet his mother's eyes, but Adam had finally turned where he could see him and he knew he needed to include both of them in what he had to say. "Ashley and Faith were in an accident—a car accident—they're at the hospital and Faith may need a blood transfusion."
************
Adam settled Sharon onto the couch with Noah and then picked up his cell phone and said, "I'll call Victor…my dad…and find out what we can do to help…"
Adam used his hands to guide his way out of the room. He was too distracted by the possibilities to focus as he was now used to doing. He took a deep, strangled breath as he dialed Victor's cell phone and prayed he would answer. He knew several things: Ashley's blood type was A+, Victor's blood type was O- and Sharon and Nick were both B+. It wouldn't be long before the medical personnel at Genoa City Memorial would be clear that Ashley Abbott and Victor Newman were NOT Faith's parents.
