If the Hero Falls
There's a food chain, somewhere.
Two food chains. They make a helix:
never holding hands, always finding
but they hold hands with others: their friends,
their slaves, their allies, and those who share a goal
but the ones at the top are half-alone:
they hold a hand, and no-one holds theirs.
But the villain's lucky. The hero's nice
and will offer a friendship, forgiveness
when they fall with sword to neck.
And the hero's not.
Because, if the hero falls,
who'd offer their hand
to pull him up again?
They'd try, of course.
The stars would try
but all the stars in the world
couldn't replace the Earth's sun
Even if there are a thousand stronger stars
further away…
And the villain won't help, of course.
It's their victory, if the hero falls.
So the hero has to keep on standing,
no matter what, keep on walking forward
because there'll be no-one to save him
if he falls.
