I do not own Death Note.
L smashed his fist against the wall. Pain coursed through his knuckles. He did it again, and this time it caused a white-hot throbbing to run up his arm. Again and again, L punched the wall.
One might ask what could cause the best detective in the world so much angst. It was because B was dead. Killed. Murdered in cold blood.
'Well, a heart attack didn't exactly have much blood involved'. L reminded himself.
No. It would have been better if B had been brutally stabbed, shot, or tortured. That's what B would have wanted. He would have wanted his death to be drastic; a performance. Instead, he ended up as just another prisoner killed by Kira.
No, he was so much more than a criminal. He was a successor. Backup, although he had always hated the name. L knew that he was much, much more than Backup. He was Beyond Birthday, the man who dared to stand against L. Depending on the way you look at it, Kira could also be "standing against L". However, Beyond did it out in the open, whereas Kira, who he was ninety-percent sure was Light Yagami, committed his murders in some sort of supernatural way. Coward.
L and Beyond's relationship had been much more than mentor and apprentice. They had a sort of… twisted version of a relationship. They had slept together—on more than one occasion. B had always been so forceful, so dominant. Beyond was the only thing in the world that could bring L to his knees. Literally.
The detective gave something akin to a small smirk as he realized the innuendo. What the two of them had shared was definitely more than lust, but still not quite love. They had found something in each other that both frightened them and fascinated them. Now that Beyond was gone, all that was left of their "relationship" was a warm sort of afterglow.
Now he missed him. L missed his B.
The detective suddenly stopped, his eyes widening. He could just imagine what Beyond what have said to that. No, the murderer would have insisted otherwise, and then would have proceeded to thoroughly punish him in the most satisfying way possible. After all, L was the submissive one in their relationship.
L didn't own B.
B owned L.
