Herbal Brew

This is Herbal Brew. She is an earth pony who is a younger sister of her brother, Herbal Spice. Brew walked out of the garden into kitchen to find her brother, Herbal Spice, staring at some plants and writing in a book. Brew was really curious and asked him what he was doing. Spice then explained that he had gathered and was doing research on the plants. Brew was interested and asked him if she can stay and watch. He didn't mind so she stayed and learned about how the texture can have a drastic effect on the plants properties and the length of the stem can tell you where to look for the plant. Brew was very fascinated with all the things Spice was telling her.

The next day, Spice told Brew that he was going to go search for new plants in the everfree forest. Brew was worried about her brother and told him to stay near the edge and not to go in too far in. He agreed, but Brew had a feeling that he wasn't going to listen and get distracted by a cool plant or something.

After talking with her brother, she went to the library and asked Twilight Sparkle if she had any books on plants and herbs. Twilight looked at Brew with an approving look on her face. "I'm glad to see our fillies and colts still know what a book is." Twilight said with a sarcastic tone. Brew found the joke funny and laughed a bit. "I'm sorry, but the only book in right now that has anything to do with herbs is one over potion brewing. Will this work?" Brew nodded her head. "I'm glad I could be of assistance. Bring that book back safely please and have a nice day."

Brew headed home and started to read the book. She had trouble understanding it though because it kept talking about herbal powders and pastes. Her brother didn't say anything about these. Brew's mother and father came in with distressed looks on their faces and started asking Brew if she knew where Herbal Spice was. She then told them that he had gone to the edge of the everfree forest looking for plants. With looks of fright on their faces, they knew that they had to look for him.

As they were about to leave, they see Herbal Spice walking up to the home with a pony with a large variety of marking and stripes all over her. They all ran out and hugged Spice with much relief to see he was unharmed. Their parents then thanked the strange pony that called herself Zecora and then she was off.

We were all thrilled to see Spices cutie mark and Brew asked how he got it. "I got it after Zecora taught me how to make these powders and pastes with the plants and herbs." Brew remembered that the book she checked out talked about those things and asked here brother if he could help her understand it. He agreed and kept his word this time.

He explained what they all did and how to make basic powders and pastes to make certain potions. Spice told her that he would rather stay with the powders and herbs, but wouldn't mind giving her the ingredients if she wanted to give it a go. She was excited and say yes. Before Brew began, she had decided to go get some rest after today. Spice had the same idea.

The next day, Brew attempted to make a basic tasting potion to enhance a ponies taste. Spice watched her brew the potion as he had watched Zecora make the powders. Brew was getting the hang of it after Spice explained what the powders were all about.

Once Brew had finished, she asked Spice if he would try the potion. He did trusting in his sister. He then tried a strawberry to see if it would be even sweeter and as expected, it was much sweeter Brew then had to hide the strawberries for the rest of the day to keep him from eating them all.

She was happy to see her potion had worked so well. Soon after, her cutie mark appeared. Spice stopped in his tracks to congratulate Brew. She had continued to practice potion brewing and returned Twilight's book unharmed. Once she had learned almost all she could about potion brewing, Brew soon after named herself a professional apothecary.
