Title: Faire Miroiter
Faire Miroiter- French- "conjure up images of…"
"Maybe love was superstition, a prayer we said to keep the truth of loneliness at bay."
-Alina Starkov, The Grisha Trilogy: Ruin and Rising
"Hello. Sorry I'm late… work you know. It's quite hard right now. The war was… destructive", he chuckles. "I know you know that. How's your work going?"
"Our division is doing okay. Nothing much to do", she shrugs. "I kinda miss working with you guys. Are you sure you're not slacking off, Colonel?"
"Don't worry… this is only temporary, and I'm not that irresponsible, you know. It's just that… cleaning after the Fullmetal brat irks me." He sighs, rolling his eyes like a child.
"Sir, you should be more adult-like. You have an impending promotion, remember?"
With that, he sighed. It's not that he dislikes promotions, it's just that this promotion would mean more work for him. Well, after the promotion, he would have Riza back beside him… so, it would be not that difficult. The whole team will be back together again- a perfect happily ever after.
"Yeah yeah… anyway, have you ordered already?" Roy Mustang asks. He sits up straight, folding his bare hands on top of the table.
The blonde nods.
Efficient as always… Even when the two of them eat out, she would still be on her guard. That, he's quite thankful of. It would be an exaggeration to say that he could barely tie his shoelaces correctly, but that's just a statement of how highly he thinks of his aid. She's one of his main supporting pillars. She's important to him… and he might even love her.
Love… well, it is a possibility.
He has known her for a long time… it is possible that he had come to love the girl, and now, the woman. But he would not yield. No. they have dreams. Her and him… even though he's willing to risk, he's not sure if she would do the same. The law regarding relationships is not that strict, but he just couldn't risk it. Not when they still have things to do.
He clears his throat, "Havoc and the others miss you."
"Oh?"
"I've been telling them to come with me. Those idiots… they miss you, but still they refuse to come."
With that, Riza smiled. Indeed, it's weird that even though Havoc, Breda, Fuery and Falman miss her, they turned down the Colonel's offer to hang out with the two of them.
It's not a unique occurrence- the hang out that is. They've been doing things like drinking together and going out… until the start of their fight against the Homunculus. Things were just too risky and busy for them to continue going out and playing around. And with the sudden disbandment of Team Mustang, it became impossible. But now that the war is over, wouldn't it be okay to go back to the way things were?
Maybe they're just really busy and pressured… that is possible.
"And they're acting as if you'll never come back."
Roy laughs again. It's amusing really… his four subordinates are quite synchronized every time they act the joke. It's as if every word is true…
The laughter turns to tears… Riza's expression did not change. He could very well be facing a cold, stone wall.
"You will… come back, right?"
"You know I always do…"
"Is there anyone else in Room 107?"
"What? Don't be creepy, Jane. You know THAT patient is alone there. He's restrained and is constantly given a shot of tranquilizer just in case he loses control and unconsciously uses his alchemy."
"But I thought I heard a female-"
"Remember Jane… he's an alchemist- a gifted one at that."
"I know… he's a hero of many times- Colonel Roy Mustang. He WAS a Führer candidate, right?"
"Yes. Before he lost his mind."
"I wonder how… I heard there was a girl."
"Isn't there always? Anyway, you should be doing rounds in the west wing."
