Few Words

"Love me/that's all I ask of you." – Phantom of the Opera, Christine and Raoul

Robin and Raven's relationship was built on few words. What they knew about each other was learned through observation. This didn't change when they became a couple. They were not a couple that required constant physical contact or chatter. Most of the time they merely enjoyed spending time together, even in utter silence.

Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Starfire were out around the town, leaving the two birds alone in the tower. While most couples would do something romantic when left alone, Robin and Raven wanted nothing more than to enjoy each other's company. They were both in Robin's bedroom; him at his computer desk, typing criminal reports, and her on his bed, resting against the headboard while reading a novel. They had been like this for hours, the only sound in the room being the tapping on the keyboard and the occasional turn of a page.

Robin finished typing his report on the HIVE and slumped back in his chair. This was his twelfth report of the night and he was absolutely exhausted. He looked at the bottom right at his screen for the clock and nearly gaped. He had been doing reports for three and a half hours. Stretching his stiff muscles, he spun his chair around to face his bed. As he opened his mouth to say something to his girlfriend he stopped himself and stared.

Raven was sitting on his bed with her knees to her chest and his comforter up to her waist. Her book rested against her thighs and her right hand was holding the bottom corner of the page, getting ready to turn it. Robin watched as she flipped the page, her eyes darting across the page, lighting up with the new words making up the plot. As she got further down the page, the corners of her mouth upturned and her eyes brightened.

Robin continued to watch her for a few minutes, his own mouth curved in a soft smile. He thrilled in seeing her so unguarded. Her face became so open, so full of expression. Usually only her eyes betrayed what she was feeling but when she read, her face became an open book as well.

He wasn't sure what came over him. It could have been the fact he had been working for three and a half hours or it just could have been his emotions. Whatever it was, he couldn't seem to stop the few words that came out of his mouth.

"God, I love you."

AN: Guess who's not dead? I'm so incredibly sorry. Everything got sort of…hectic, but I'm really trying to get back into the writing process. I'm going to try some oneshots to get back into the routine then I will get started with Red Light, Green Light once more.

Thank you to everyone who has been patient with me. I'm really going to try!
