"Frisk, my child," Toriel said one day. Frisk looked up happily from their drawing, a colored pencil in their hand. "I just finished texting Undyne and Alphys. They would love if you go over for tea."
Frisk nodded, putting down their colored pencil and bushing the extra graphite off their hands. They pulled on their favorite sweater, purple and blue striped, only a little worn with time, and signed a loving goodbye to Toriel.
"Have fun, Frisk! Be home before dark, okay?"
Yes, Mom.
Frisk walked down the street, looking up at the bright sky. Even though they'd only been underground for a few days, they forgot just how bright and brilliant the sun was. It was something they wouldn't take for granted any time soon, especially considering how much all the monsters had risked to see it.
Getting to Undyne's house was easy. It was only a handful of houses down the street from Toriel's, pretty much the only reason the worrisome mom let Frisk walk on her own. Frisk knocked on the door, painted characteristically with fish only moderately resembling Undyne, and smiled brightly as Alphys opened the door.
"Frisk! O-oh, my, we, uh, didn't expect you so soon, um, I mean, it would have been easy for you to walk over but, uh," her speech became hurried as she stuttered. She'd been trying hard to become more confident, finally doing the right thing and telling the families of the monsters that died in her experiment what had happened, but it was still a work-in-progress, especially when she got nervous or flustered.
Suddenly, Undyne's voice echoed. "Alphys, honey, let Frisk in!"
Alphys moved aside. Her lab coat had since been traded for a long shirt with an anime drawing of a human cat girl and the words Mew Mew Kissy Cutie bolded across the chest. Frisk touched the shirt gently, making a heart shape with their hands. Alphys blushed.
The two walked further into Undyne's house, a gigantic grand piano taking up most of the main room, leaving space for a small couch and a television, currently tuned into Mettaton's most recent performance.
"Frisk!" Undyne turned, smiling at them from the kitchen. The floorplan was very open, and Frisk could see into the other room, noting that what Undyne was doing wasn't exactly just making tea.
What are you doing? They signed.
"Oh, she's making, um,"
"Spaghetti!" Undyne called. "Of course."
"A-are you sure that's a good idea?" Alphys asked. "The firepeople told us that, um, t-that they would be, uh, really mad if they had to c-come back here."
"I won't start anything on fire!" Undyne promised, just as something on the stove behind her burst into flame.
Fire! Frisk signed desperately, and Undyne sighed, defeated.
"Do you guys just want to order a pizza?"
Twenty minutes later, the firemen and women had left, leaving a stuttering Alphys with another admonishment not to let the fish monster cook anymore. Frisk rubbed their hands against their belly, making kind of an unhappy face at Alphys.
"Undyne, Frisk is hungry," Alphys said, wringing her hands.
"Don't worry!" Undyne grinned brightly. "Pizza is on it's way!"
They had to wait another ten minutes before anyone showed up with pizza, so the three of them sat on Undyne's porch, chatting about nothing in particular, until finally, Frisk could bite into a huge slice of mushroom and hamburger pizza. The three sat there, chowing down with the scent of burning pasta around them.
Finally, as the sun was starting to set, Frisk took off, waving goodbye to Undyne and Alphys, heading home to Toriel.
