"Los Angeles Petals! This is Katie; how may I help you?"
"Hi, um, I'd like to send some flowers?" The man's voice was a bit uncertain, as though he wasn't quite sure he should be doing this.
"Sure! Let me get a form out here… All right. Who's it going to?"
"Sophie Devereaux. That's D-e-v-e-r-e-a-u-x."
Katie scrawled the name across the page, the scratching of her pen carrying over the line. "Mhmm. And the address?"
"201 Altanessa Drive in LA."
"And your name and number?"
"Nathan Ford. And it's 555-7630."
"Okay, Mr. Ford, what would you like to send?"
"Well, that's the thing. I don't know," he sighed, "What do you send a woman who's impossible to buy for?"
Katie laughed. "A specialty of mine. Does she have a favorite color? Favorite flower?"
"Ahh… Well, I know she likes Gerbera daisies and, uh, irises, too."
"Do you want anything traditional in the arrangement, like red roses?"
"Could you do the roses with the other things too?"
"Of course. It is going to get a bit pricey, though, when you go there."
"Oh, no, price is no object," Nathan stated, very matter-of-factly, "Can I get this delivered tomorrow morning?"
"Mhmm, sure. We have a delivery van going out at 9:00."
"Great, great."
"Now, would you like to add anything to this bouquet? We have all sorts of little trinkets we can tie in for only a few dollars extra."
Nathan 'hmm'ed and 'hah'ed a few minutes. "Do you have anything French?"
"Actually, we have these adorable little, metal Eiffel Towers…"
"Oh God, that sounds perfect. So you just tie it to the vase then?"
"Yep. With a nice, fabric ribbon. Now, what would you like the card to say?"
"Hmm… Ah… Okay. Say this…"

Sophie half-jogged down the stairs, running her mousse-covered fingers through her hair. "Coming!" She straightened her lavender top as she came to a skidding stop at the door and opened it.
A petite blond stood on her doorstep, balancing a large vase of flowers. Roses and irises and pink daisies overflowed so she had to move the vase to her hip to see.
"Hi. I have flowers for Sophie?"
"That-that's me," Sophie stammered.
Katie held out the vase with a smile. "You're a lucky girl. Most guys don't even want to pay for the dozen roses."
Sophie's eyes widened as she took the flowers. "I-Uh-Why-I-"
"Happy Valentine's Day!" Katie laughed as she headed back down the driveway to the waiting van.
Sophie set the flowers on the hall table, leaving the door open. Biting her lip, she slid her finger beneath the seal on the small envelope. Slowly, she pulled the flat card out.
