Rating: Totally PG

Disclaimer: Unfortunately I do not own Stargate, nor do I have any affiliation with it what so ever apart from being a huge fan.

Summary: The mystery of how Jack asks Sam to return to the SGC after her time off.

Sitting in her lab at area 51 was a constant reminder that she wasn't at the SGC. It's not that she didn't like it there, it was great. She was surrounded by the newest equipment, and the most high tech gadgets. But it just didn't feel like hers. Her SGC lab used to have a personal touch, it wasn't just the photo's, of her dad, Janet, Cassie and the old SG1, everything was exactly where she wanted it to be. She knew where things would be with out looking, but even after six months here she still couldn't find certain things and was constantly asking the other scientist. But most of all she missed the friendly faces. Everyone stuck to themselves here, there was always work to do, so socialising wasn't high on the agenda. It had been to long since she had been back to the SGC and she was missing them all like crazy. It wasn't as if she hadn't talked to them at all though, there was the weekly phone calls, but still, it wasn't the same.

She was sitting at her desk staring at one of the newest gadgets to hit her lab that morning when her ponderings were interrupted by a knock on the door.

Swinging around she was shocked at the sight of her visitor, but not enough to stop her from jumping top her feet.

"At ease Carter."

"What are you doing here…Sir?" Stepping inside he closed the door behind him.

"Can't a guy drop by and visit his favourite scientist once in a while."

"Of course you can, sir, it's just not often that I see you around here."

"Special visit, and it is okay to call me Jack, Sam."

"Sorry."

"No problem…so what you working on?"

"Umm…don't really know actually. So what's so special that you needed to come here personally?"

"Well actually, it's you!"

"Me?"

"How's Cassie?"

"Um…she doing a lot better…back at school actually…started yesterday."

"Good…good…"

"Jack…what's going on?"

"Well…in Mitchell's word's, 'the world needs saving again and we need your help'."

"That's what the phone is usually for."

"Umm…not this time…it's bigger than that…the…ah…Mach 9 is being prepped as we speak…and if you say yes…you both fly out in two hours."

"Two hours?"

"It's entirely up to you…I know you left for a reason, and if you're not ready…"

"It would be good to see everyone again…and it's not as if the work I'm doing here can't be handed over to someone else."

"So is that a…yes?"

"Are we talking permanent or…?"

"Again it's up to you. Mitchell will be thrilled if you rejoin SG1, and Daniel and Teal'c…are always saying it's not the same with out you."

"Well…it looks like I'm going doesn't it."

"Great…well I'll let you get packed…" He got up to leave, but her voice stopped him.

"Jack?"

"Sam?"

"Thanks!"

"What for?"

"Making it a choice instead of ordering me to go."

"It's a big decision…and I didn't want to push you into something you weren't ready for." She could only smile and nod. "Now…good luck…and look after yourself."

"I will…and Jack…don't forget to drop in and say hello every once in a while…"

"Of course…I'll even take you all to dinner when you get back from this mission."

"I'll look forward to it."

"Me too!" With one last look he opened the door and left, leaving her to pick up her few personal belongings.
