The phone rang.

The slumbering man startled awake and a hand fumbled free from the duvet for the softly ringing offender. Bringing himself upright, he flipped open his cell. "Eppes."

Sensing it was going to be a long conversation, he stood from the bed, his bed companion's arm slipping from his bare chest.

Leaving the bedroom, half shutting the door, Don yawned as he headed for the kitchen. Pouring a glass of water, he listened to the brief.

Halfway through, he heard a cry. Placing his glass on the bench with ease, he maintained the conversation as he moved to the second bedroom.

Entering, he saw his baby daughter's face bright red and it was the smell of her dirty diaper that hit him next.

He crammed the phone between his jaw and shoulder as he eased his grumpy daughter from the sheets. Keeping her at arms length, he made for the change table. Lying down the less than impressed youngster, he swiftly placed the phone on speaker and got to work.

Never let it be said he couldn't multitask.

Both tasks complete not long after – dirty diaper thankfully binned – Don eased his daughter back into her jumpsuit and cradled her against his chest.

Pressing a kiss to his baby's downy hair, he reached for his mobile, his wedding ring catching the material before he tugged it free.

Spending a few quiet moments with his baby girl, her little fists rubbing her tired eyes, he marvelled that this innocent being was something he had helped create.

Placing her in the cot, he drew up the sheets before giving her one last kiss on her forehead. "Sleep tight sweetheart."

Returning to his bedroom, he placed the phone on the bedside table once again and eased between the sheets. Robin shuffled over and wrapped herself around her husband's body with a sleepy question. "Everything okay?"

"Mm hmm," Don promised as he pressed a kiss to her head and wrapped an arm around her body. "Audrey's out like a light."

Finito.
