DO YOU LIKE IT?
The band was thin. So delicate it seemed as is it would break from the smallest bit of pressure. Instead of the pale white she had seen on many women's hands this was made of a bright, gleaming yellow. Its only decoration was a square diamond set on its point like a kite, with three small, round diamonds on either side. As she moved it in the light it sparkled so bright she had to blink to clear her eyes.
"It was my grandmothers."
She moved the ring again, and as she did the round stones reminded her of flowers.
"My grandfather gave it on her on their third date. Always said that he knew on the first, but didn't want to seem too forward."
She looked at the ring closer and read the word Unique on the inside of the band.
"He told her she wasn't like any of the other girls. She was different."
She quirked an eyebrow at that and he took the ring and slipped it on the second finger of her left hand. It felt right somehow. Like it belonged there.
"So?" he began nervously, his voice full of hope and fear, making his accent thicker than it usually was. "Do you like it?"
She moved her hand and the ring seemed to sparkle even more.
"It is…satisfactory," she replied.
He laughed and kissed her full on the lips, his own smiling against hers as he did so. When they separated he reached for her hand and held it tight. She looked down at their intertwined fingers with the ring between them and felt a swelling in her heart. Than, looking into his eyes, she cupped his cheek with her other hand and kissed him with all her heart. When she broke it, he sighed.
"So you really do like it?" he asked.
T'pol couldn't help it any longer. She smiled. "Yes, Trip. I like it."
A/N: I hope you liked it. I originally started this out as something COMPLETELY different; but thought that this worked out better story wise. Review if you can. Much appreciated.
