It just wasn't the same.
She was nice and everything, but she was nothing like her. Sure, she was gentle, just like her, but she hardly knew him.
Frankly, she didn't understand him at all. A shih tzu started yapping at him and he growled back. She, his beloved, would have calmly petted him. This would have soothed him, and he would be nicer to the puppy, which would temporarily cease the fight.
But the awkward girl gaped at him and pulled him along. Not roughly. She was gentle. But not nearly as great as her.
She was out of town for a week. Until then, he was stuck with her, instead of her.
She was a friend of her, looking after him for that week. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't help missing her. Her name was Terra, and she appeared to love animals by the way she constantly struggled to be his friend. But he was bound to his owner.
None of his habits were common knowledge. Terra didn't know how to treat him. All was right with the world when she walked him, but when Terra walked him, all was wrong with the world.
It wasn't that she was a bad person. She was just the wrong person to care for him.
The dull walk ended before they reached his favourite place. Without paying any attention to him, she mumbled something about sleepyness. To alert her, he let out a slight whine. Immediately, she glanced down at him.
"What, you're tired too? Let's go home, sweetie."
Times like this he really wished he could speak. Subtly he pulled on his leash. Terra took no notice. All his life he had been taught to be obedient and cooperative. If he tugged any harder on the leash, he would be disrespecting humans, his betters. He let out one last pitiful whimper, and followed along, tail tucked between his legs.
The place was eerily dark. With obvious relief, she dropped me off. She waved. It was supposed to be friendly but to him, it was mocking him, haunting him. Even the little company he had was leaving.
"Sweet dreams, Silkie." Terra shut the door, trapping him in my vast, dark, gloomy prison. She would pick him up tomorrow to drag him along on another miserable walk. One whole week until Starfire returned, one whole week in misery. Could he survive?
A/N:
Sorry about this. I was inspired while petsitting for my best friend
Kylie's dog, Grace. She was so awkward around me and missed Kylie so
much. I let my imagination run wild. I must be pretty obsessed with FF
if something like that makes me write a story, right? Yeah, this is a
piece of junk, and really redundant. But I just wanted to get it out. Sorry, it's a little confusing. I wanted it raw, so I didn't give it to my beta reader, alibi2014 (who, by the way, R-O-C-K-S rocks!). Hopefully you will be able to follow it anyway.
