This is part of the Violet Brigade Series, with a McCoy and Spock pairing. McCoy his desperate not to be outed, luckily friends stick together. I was trying to write a very short piece that got the object across. It detours a little from the usual VB series of events.
Close Call
McCoy knew he had done it. All these years of careful hiding, and scrupulous caution, gone. His only excuse had been that it had been Christmas and he had had too much to drink, loosened up a little too much, let his guard down around his love. He new they had made a mistake. So when one of the high commanders stepped into the turbo-lift that was bringing their little group to lunch, McCoy stomach did a flop in anticipation of what was to come. In the closed cramptness of the turbo-lift he reached instinctively for his lovers hand.
The Admiral nodded at all of them.
"Ambassador Spock, Captain Sulu, Nurse Chapel, Dr. McCoy"
He sounds ominously pleasant to the Dr. ears
"Glad to see all of you. You all seemed to have such a good time at our little party, Nurse you looked beautiful. Captain I enjoyed our conversation. And Dr. you seemed to be having a good time, who was it again that I caught a glimpse of you with?"
McCoy's mouth went dry and all the blood rushed to his read. Yet miraculous, he heard Christine Chapel's voice around the frantic beating of his heart.
"I only got a glimpse Admiral. But she seemed to be tall and athletic, with a tan"
Her voice and face was completely deadpan, and the Admiral chuckled. McCoy realized he could suddenly breath again and he threw his ex-nurse a glance so piercing it could have cut through glass. Spock's face remained as unreadable as always. Sulu stared at a spot straight head of him, a little above the others heads, and smiled very slightly.
