Sometimes, he reflected, I really think that our names had been switched at birth. Lazy eyes followed the hyperactive blond as the blond stood there, arguing with the long haired, reserved girl that they were traveling with to the top of the Mountains. Well, trying to argue at least- she remained completely unruffled, without even a change of expression to mar her face.

And he knew truthfully, that was what ticked off the other boy the most- not being able to get her to react to anything. Although many said that the boy was angry all the time, he knew it wasn't true- "DIA! Pay attention to the road!" A light fist descended upon his head, making him look up at the blond.

"Honestly, you were just about to walk off the broken bridge!" The blond pulled him away from the brink.

"Sorry Pearl. I was so sleepy!" He apologized, and Pearl very gently bonked him on the head again. Pearl with his rather amazing ability to wake up at any time and stay awake always amazed him. Pearls rock hard determination to get something done was always such a harsh difference to his own willingness to allow life to happen to him, passing him by without a thought.

It was Pearl that kept him anchored in real life, when at times he would simply rather do nothing more then sit back, and allow years of life to pass by doing nothing but eating and sleeping.

There was something that sounded suspiciously like a giggle, and Pearl jerked around to pin the girl with a Look. "You just giggled didn't you?"

"Don't be a pest. Of course I didn't," The girl replied with a perfectly straight face.

Pearl's mouth opened once more to speak, when Dia decided to interrupt, holding up a handful of crackers from where he had retreived them from his special hiding space. "Pearl, want some?"

The blond boy glanced from crackers to the girls absolutely blank face, before huffing quietly. He plucked a few of the crackers from Dia's hands, warning him, "Right after this we're going to practice our Manzai."

"EEEHHH?" Oh yes, their names must have been switched at birth, but that was alright. "Hey Pearl, what's that famous line again? was it 'a stone by any other name would be just as pretty?'"

"You-" Pearl began, when the girl cut in.

"No. The correct line is 'A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet'. Why do you ask?"

For a few moments his face remained thoughtful, before he let it slide into a blankness. "I forgot." Pearl fell over as the girl's blank face broke briefly to show a ever so slight amusement.

Secretly, to himself, he switched a few words.

A Pearl by any other name would be just as handsome.

a/n: Just a quick little drabble oneshot from the pokemon special manga. I just noticed how the two seemed to have their names switched at birth or something, because they both have the opposite namesakes traits. Anyways, please review!
