Chapter 1
Jack Sparrow and his men had just landed at Tortuga to pick up some more supplies. Jack as usual headed straight for the Faithful Bride, a pub that he normally frequented when e arrived in Tortuga. Will was with him of course, without Elizabeth. After they had broken the curse of Barbossa he returned to Port Royal with Elizabeth. Only to find that she had already given her word to Norrington to marry him. It was three months after they had left Port Royal and Will was still heart-broken and drowning his sorrows in rum.
"Cheer up mate, Elizabeth is gone. I could say it's her loss but that's not really true. Who would want you anyway?" Jack Sparrow cajolingly tried to bring his friend out of his misery.
"You will find someone else and she wouldn't reject you in the same way Elizabeth did. Savvy?" He continued.
Will nodded somberly. He knew there was no good in moaning over his loss anyway. But he just couldn't forget Elizabeth's beautiful face and how her eyes were filled with tears when she told him that she was betrothed to Norrington.
They drank the night away but the roles were reversed. Will couldn't stop drinking and it was Jack who finally had to take the bottle of rum away from him. They left the Faithful Bride at midnight and walked along the docks, back to the ship. The ship was earthly quiet. Jack unlocked the door but found that he had locked it instead. They entered the hallway and each went to their respective rooms. In a spilt second, surprised yells could be hear from each room. They stumbled into each other in the hallway looking at each other with horrified eyes.
"Jack, that's not my room!" Will said stunned.
"It's not mine either." Jack said equally surprised.
They inspected the ship from top to bottom and found that it was not their ship but instead the HMS Dauntless. They quickly left the ship but wandered along the docks looking for The Black Pearl but they could not find it. They sat down in silence on the wharf and thought long and hard about it.
"The HMS Dauntless. It was where the Black Pearl was. But where's the Black Pearl?" Will asked Jack worriedly.
"I don't know mate. But what happened is not good. It means we have no ship". Jack said morosely.
The horror of that struck the both of them and they were afraid that they would be stranded on Tortuga forever. They got up and wandered along the streets of Tortuga late into the night. Even though it was about two in the morning, the streets still bustled with activity. They came upon a wounded boy and carried him into a house where he was given medical attention. The owner of the house offered to give them food and lodging for the night but Jack and Will did not see the sly glint in his eyes when they accepted the invitation gratefully. They fell into a long dreamless sleep the minute their heads hit the pillow and when they awoke in the morning, everything was different.
