It's been a month since the incident, two weeks since I've seen Hale, and a week since I got the most shocking news of my life. Well, maybe not so shocking. Bad things always seem to happen to me. I just wish this hadn't happened now. I'm going to have to live with my mistake. I just hope I have Hale by my side.
The bedroom door opens and I turn around. Hale walks through. "Where were you?" I snap. "Where have you been?" My voice has turned pleading now.
"I was in Italy with the Bagshaws. It wasn't a big deal."
I go to him now and wrap my arms around his waist. "Hale," I say and my voice breaks.
His arms come around my shoulders. "Kat, are you okay?"
I shake my head. "Hale, I'm pregnant."
He tenses. "Are you sure?"
"I think so. I took four home tests and they all came out positive. I haven't gone to a doctor yet, so I can't be absolutely sure, but there's not much room for doubt."
His arms tighten around me and the rest of his body relaxes. "I'll go with you. I'll go wherever you want me to. Remember Kat, I'm all in."
"I know," I whisper. "You always have been." I sigh and pull away. "How are we going to tell my dad and Uncle Eddie?" I sit down on the bed and fold my legs.
Hale sits beside me and says, "They're going to kill me."
"We shouldn't tell them until we know for sure. There's no reason to make them upset over nothing."
He puts his head in his hands. "What are we going to do? I mean, I have the money to support us, but I don't know how to raise a kid."
"Neither do I, Hale. I don't know what to do about any of this."
He sighs. "I know, Kat. Come here." He pulls me onto his lap and wraps his arms around me. "We'll figure it out."
"Gabrielle might know what to do, at least for now. Can I borrow your phone?"
"Of course." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a shiny smart phone. "Her number's already in my phone."
I find Gabrielle's name in the contact list, take a breath and hit send.
She picks up on the fourth ring. "Hello?"
"Hey, Gabrielle."
"Oh, hey Kitty Kat. What's up?"
I take a deep breath and close my eyes. "Gabrielle, I think I'm pregnant."
I hear a small gasp. "Does Hale know? Wait, it is Hale's, right?"
"Of course it is! And yes, I told him."
"Well, how'd he take it?"
"I think he took it well. Gabrielle, I don't know what to do." My voice breaks and it makes me sound like a kid.
There's silence for a moment, then she sighs. "Alright, I'm in town right now and I know where you need to go. I can drive you. Is Hale going to come?"
I pull the phone away and look up at Hale. "Hey," I say.
He looks down at me and raises his eyebrows slightly.
"Are you going to come to the doctor with me?"
"I told you I would."
I nod and put the phone back to my ear. "Yeah, he's coming."
"Alright I'll get everything set. I'll let you know when I find out when you'll for sure be going."
"Thank you so much, Gabrielle."
"Don't worry about it, Kat. Oh, by the way, don't tell your dad or Uncle Eddie yet."
I give a small smile. "I know. Bye, Gabrielle."
"Bye, Kat," she says and hangs up.
Hale says, "That sounded like it went well."
"Yeah, it did. She said she'd drive us to the doctor."
Hale chuckles. "Good, that way, I don't have to ask Marcus."
I smile. I'm nervous about this whole thing, but I know I'll be okay.
