A/N: I had this idea yesterday ON Valentine's Day but I was prevented from posting by a boyfriend who was making dinner. Go figure! Enjoy!
Valentine's Day. The day loved by people in love and hated by those who were not. The day Aphrodite's son Eros and his arrows captured the hearts of unsuspecting passerbys.
The floor was filled with chattering women...and a few men. The downstairs had given up calling individuals and just called up to the supervisors. Since one was out "sick" Lisbon was inundated with calls due to the influx of deliveries.
Jane watched this all in amusement as Lisbon stomped out of her office once again. "How the hell am I supposed to get anything done?" she grumbled to herself before pointing at Van Pelt. "Package at the front desk."
Van Pelt's face exploded into a big grin as she skipped to the elevator. Lisbon rolled her eyes and escaped behind her door.
Jane was thinking of moving to join her when she was out again. "Rigsby, you're up. I hope for your sake it's not a flower arrangement."
"Hopefully, it's food. I'm starved."
Lisbon's brows went up. "I didn't even know guys received deliveries on Valentine's day.
Jane grinned. "Does this mean I shouldn't be expecting a nice bouquet from you, Lisbon?"
"In your dreams, Jane," she shot back.
Once Cho got to go downstairs curiosity got the better of Lisbon, who decided to mingle with her team to check out their prizes. Van Pelt had received a dozen red roses, the card mysteriously disappearing and Lisbon not wanting to know. Rigsby had gotten his wish and was shifting happily through his basket of food. Cho's girlfriend had hand-delivered her gift of books and a shark stuffed animal he proudly displayed but refused to elaborate on.
With a sigh, Lisbon sat next to Jane. "I hate Valentine's day."
"But, honey, isn't it great to see the kids so happy?" She opened her mouth to retort back but he tilted his head. "I think your phone is ringing."
"Great," she said as she got up. "Must be for one of Messing's people. I'm going wring his neck tomorrow."
Jane watched as she entered her office. A moment later she left again and made her way to the elevator.
A gasp from Van Pelt made him look to her in concern. "Jane! Did you?"
"Did I what?"
"Come on, Jane," Cho joined in. "You got Lisbon something. Admit it."
He made a face. "Valentine's day is another one of the world's commercialized holidays geared towards making the population feel better about ignoring their significant other the rest of the year by buying useless crap on one specific day."
The arrival of Lisbon effectively stopped the conversation. She was carrying a huge vase filled with lilies, daisies, and carnations and a box in the shape of a treasure chest.
"Hey, Lisbon," Jane yelled across the floor. "What sucker bought you that?"
She grinned at him. "I'll never tell!"
Later as he was pretending to sleep on the couch he felt someone over him. Lisbon was there, holding out a piece of chocolate from her box. "Happy Valentine's Day."
He smiled as he accepted the gift and sat up so she could sit on the arm. They were the only ones left. "How about dinner?"
She laughed. "I think you've done enough."
"Meh. One small delivery. Besides, we have to eat."
"Restaurants will be packed."
"I was thinking more about getting some ingredients at the store then going to your uncrowded kitchen."
She pretended to think about it. "Ok."
The flowers were the perfect centerpiece.
