Chapter 1

I woke up with the worst headache. My back ached and my right forearm was on fire. "What happened to me?" I asked the darkness.

The wind blew softly, ruffling my fur. I stood slowly stretching out my back. I plugged my nose and blew like the human divers do to clear their sinuses. Fire erupted on my head and lower back. As it smoldered and burned I began to feel better. Fire always made me feel better. It cleared my head so I could think. Think…think…about what again?

I sighed a little uneasily as I looked around the clearing I was in. It was a breezy warm night. A small river trickled into a pond to my right. Woods surrounded the other sides. I shook myself. When my arm cracked I yelped in pain. I felt along the bone and winced. It's probably strained pretty bad I thought. This'll take a while to heal. Great.

I tried to remember how I ended up here, but gave up. I scratched my head. It was like my memories were missing. My flames began to die out as I realized how alone I was. I couldn't remember anything. The darkness of the night began to creep up on me. I sat down and pulled my legs against my chest. Thinking about how I was to get out of this mess. That's when I heard the rustling in the bushes.
