Own Nothing.
One-Shot
Hermione saw him through the Iron Gate, the lone soldier sitting by himself next to the tombstone. She had talked to Fury about letting Steve see Bucky's stone in the Arlington cemetery, she thought it would be good for him to talk to his old friend. Even though Bucky couldn't answer back.
But when Steve found out, he never left the cemetery, if it wasn't for training or missions, Steve would be here. He would sit and stare at his friend's grave and cry. She felt sorry for him, he never got to say goodbye.
She pushed open the gate and quietly made her way over to the soldier, trying not to disturb him. She stood behind him and stare at him, she didn't know what to say, Fury had ordered her to bring him back to base, it was technically her fault that he was always out here.
"You can sit down Granger." He told her, Steve looked over his shoulder, hearing her walk up and stand behind him. "I saw you watching me at the gate."
Hermione sat next to Steve as they sat in front of Bucky's gravesite. His body was never found and it killed Steve to know that it was because of him that his best friend had died. They sat in silence, just staring at the solemn tombstone.
Hermione sighed and shifted slightly as she pulled out her wand, she whispered a spell and a wreath of flowers appeared, blooming on his tombstone. "Sorry." She whispered, as Steve looked alarm at her. "I know you don't like magic." She looked away.
Steve grabbed her hand and squeezed it. "Thank you." He whispered, a tear falling down his cheek. "Thank you."
"No problem." She smiled softly.
They continued to sit like this together for another half hour before Hermione's phone went off. She glanced at it and turned it off. It was Fury, wondering what was going on and why they weren't back yet. She tucked the phone back into her pocket and remained quiet, she knew it was only a matter of minutes before Fury decided to send agents after them.
They sat there, quiet, just listening to the wind and the sounds around the cemetery, never speaking, never talking. Just sitting in silence. Soon, they heard the SUVs belonging to S.H.I.E.L.D pull up around the cemetery and they knew their time was up. Hermione stood up, holding her hand out for Steve. He took it, standing up and dusting himself off.
They walked over to the SUV where Coulson stood next to. "Hermione?" Steve asked, stopping, she stopped next him curious.
"Yes Steve?"
"Do you think Bucky would be okay if I didn't come back, not as often just every once in awhile, I have to move on and I have to believe that he and Peggy would want me to move on."
"I think that would be a good idea." She smiled. "If I cared about someone enough, I would want him or her to move on, to be happy."
He smiled down at her, kissing her on her forehead before heading to the SUV.
She watched as he left before looking one more time at Bucky's grave. She held her shock as she looked at the ghost next to her. "He's a good guy, he needs to be happy." Bucky's ghost stated. He smiled down at her. "Make him happy okay?"
"Okay." Hermione whispered, not wanting attention called to her.
"Dr. Granger." Coulson's voice traveled to her ears and she looked to see him and Steve staring at her.
"Coming!" She shouted back, turning to look for Bucky's ghost to see him standing next to his grave, a woman next to him and she knew it was Peggy Carter. They smiled at her and nodded before turning and walked into the light. She smiled and walked to the SUV's.
"Anything you would like to share Dr. Granger?" Coulson asked.
She smiled at him and shook her head as she and Steve slid into the back seat. "Nothing at all. Just thinking what Heaven looks like."
