~The Rain Dragon~
Allow me to tell you the tale of the Rain Dragon and its connection with Bleach…
In a very far away land, where the ground was fertile and the grass green, with so much abundance from the earth, the Rain Dragon reigned as ruler. The people often brought him sacrifices & offerings, marvelous things from the land. Pleased with their gifts, he made it rain when they needed it.
But alas! He once got too carried away and it rained for many days and nights. The earth was flooded & tragedy struck; for a young woman of weak disposition had lost her life to the coldness and wetness that his rain brought.
Saddened by this, the Rain Dragon closed up the skies for many days till the people's persistent pleas moved it rained again, he let it rain with a heavy heart for his eyes had glimpsed the sorrow of a young maiden. Her sorrow was his burden for it was her sister his rains had taken. He had always glimpsed her smiling face during the rain festivals and had fallen in love with her.
But now no warmth shone from her face as her heart was chilled by ice of grief till things froze from being in her Rain Dragon was full of remorse for he knew she now despised him.
His heart broke; he vowed to remove himself from the land.
He disappeared for many days and though the people called and brought more gifts, he would not appear. The earth dried, the plants withered as the Sun proved to be a cruel master given such free reign. But the Rain Dragon still would not appear.
Years passed and the once fertile land was now a barren desert. Those who still lived, wept bitterly at their plight. When the Rain Dragon finally returned, he wept at what he saw and though he tried to make it rain, the Sun would not let him.
When night fell, he wept some more, for the maiden who had grieved her sister now looked down at him from the night sky. She had become the Moon for the Sun had imprisoned her when her cold grieving heart refused to wither under his scorching heat.
So the Rain Dragon battled the Sun by day, battled to free the Moon then wept under her cold gaze by night. On some days, he defeated the Sun and so the rain poured in the desert in a few places and people gathered to cheer him and build oases thanks to him.
On other days, he failed and the Sun roared victoriously, taking his leave of the sky only to rest as his prisoner, the Moon, appeared. Sometimes, the Sun sent his minions to taunt the Moon by night, their tiny lights mocking her cold prison, telling her she was one and they were many. But the Rain Dragon sent clouds to hide them so that only she was seen.
And when he did, it was then that he would see her smile for him.
And so it has been since then, the Rain Dragon battling the Sun to free the Moon from the Sun's grasp, and cherishing all the smiles the Moon gives him.
Will the Rain Dragon ever be victorious in his plight?
Who knows…
