Ok, so I've been here a month and it has gotten to the point of no return- I have got to do some washing. Luckily my paranoia about losing/messing up my uniform meant I brought four sets of uniform on board so have managed to avoid washing until now. My socks and pants have been easy enough by soaking them and washing them in the sink but I need something with a bigger capacity to do my uniforms. At the academy, we just put our used uniforms into a basket and left them for the cleaning staff to wash. Of course, who can I ask? It's not something that warrants seeing a senior officer and it's been too long to casually slip it into conversation with recent fellow academy graduates. Suddenly I have an idea. Something that I pass on the ay to my duty station every day- the holodeck. I am early for my shift so I have time to pop in for a program that could be the answer. I choose a 20th century household setting and there is my solution – a good old fashion washing machine and dryer. With a sense of relief, I head off to my station, planning to go back to the program later on. We may be far away from home but it doesn't mean we can't have home comforts!
