He watches Racer fall, the Oracion Seis member coughing out blood as he went. A shot well done, he silently praised, smiling at his fellow pupil as Sherry hurries to his side. That last kick probably broke a rib, but that was a small price to pay.

He leans heavily on Sherry, and the three turn away from the scene of the battle. He can tell Gray wants to check on Erza, and both he and Sherry will need medical attention soon.

Then he hears a rustling, and Racer jumps up again.

"I'm not done yet!"

They stand there, startled. What will he do next? None of them can take another beating, except perhaps Gray.

"As a member of the Oracion Seis, I cannot allow myself to suffer defeat!"

Pride was always the downfall of the weak, he mused idly. Losing too much blood made him philosophical. He would definitely need to get that broken rib seen to.

Racer rips open his shirt, revealing tubes made of a dark material strapped to his chest with a wide swathe of now-dirty bandages.

Beside him, Sherry shouts in alarm. "Explosive lachryma? He's not–"

Racer uses the last of his energy, speeding towards Gray.

"Shit!" Leon shouts as he sees Gray slump.

Gray knows this is the end. He was trying hard to control his heavy breathing, because if Lyon heard it he would definitely worry. He can tell that Lyon has a broken rib from the barely-suppressed winces, and though Sherry is on her feet, she won't be for long.

And then Racer just had to have explosive lachryma concealed in his shirt. Of course, he went for Gray.

Gray slumps. If this is the end, then so be it. He has no more energy to fight. He only regrets that he didn't get the chance to complete this mission…

"A life for a life!" Racer shouts, filled with glee at the prospect of taking down his enemies with him.

A silvery-white head of hair rushes past him and tackles the man. They fly over the cliff.

"Lyon!"

"Lyon-sama!"

Lyon grins at them. "Honestly, you just can't do anything without –"

The sky explodes in a burst of white and red and orange flame.

He blinks. It cannot be real. It can't, it can't, it just can't.

Dimly he hears someone screaming.

"Lyon!"

It is his own voice.

Sherry chokes a sob back.

"L-lyon-sama…"

First Ul, now this?

"Lyon?"

There is no way Lyon is dead. He knows his fellow pupil too well for that. "There's no way in hell that he's dead. We're gonna look for him!"

He isn't dead. He can't be dead. He's too stubborn.

She sees his familiar figure shoot past her, his speed born of desperation to save that man in front of her.

She sees it fly over the cliff, along with the prone body of the enemy, and a fire flower blossoms in midair.

Funny, she can't really hear anything except for the loud roaring in her ears.

As she watches Lyon-sama, her Lyon-sama, go flying over the cliff, she can't help but think that it was his fault.

It was all his fault.

And no matter how hard she prays, Lyon-sama isn't coming back.

She's empty. Her love for him kept her going, and now he's gone.

What can she do now?

Well, you can kill him for starters. He did it, didn't he?

She grins diabolically.

... Wow am I rusty.

Read, review, whatever. We all know what happens next in this anyways.
