Title: The Challenge
Rating: G
Summery: Post OotP. Sirius meets some strange characters after falling through the veil. Just a short fic.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything... not even Sirius! :(
A/N: Just a little thing I wrote to try and get rid of writers block on one of my other stories. My sister wanted me to write a story about Sirius fighting to get back through the veil... this is what resulted...I'm sorry about how odd and silly(bad silly) this is!
Sirius felt himself falling backwards at the force of the curse that hit him. He wasn't sure what curse it was, he couldn't remember the colour, but it had hit him square in the chest and sent him flying. He'd forgotten about the veil behind him. The Veil. He'd heard people talking about it. He waved his arms about, trying to stop himself from falling through it. He didn't want to end up on the opposite side.
All too soon, he landed on his arse behind the black curtain. The whispers he had heard from the other side were louder here. He tried to understand what they were saying.
"…..bananas……said…….time….not…any……."
"….lost me head……fell……landed on a tree……axe……"
"….cherries……red ones……..tasted exquisite…."
Getting to his feet, he turned and faced the direction of the whispers. Standing behind him was a group of people. One was dressed as a travelling minstrel from the fifteenth century. Another wore a pair of too large stripped trousers and a bowler hat, and another seemed to have come from a rather odd fancy dress party, she wore a pair of huge blue butterfly wings with a red woollen jumper and pink tights. They all looked at him when he cleared his throat.
"Erm…hello." He said.
"Hello." They replied in unison.
"I was wondering…"
"Yes?" They said together.
"…if you could possibly tell me how to get out of here?" he asked.
The three people pointed at the archway through which he had just fallen. Thanking them, he walked back over to it and made to stick his hand through the curtain. To his surprise, when he pulled back his hand, a strange glue-like substance was attached to it. A sudden bark of laughter from behind made him turn.
The man in the bowler hat was doubled over with laughter and holding his stomach. He was giggling so much that the minstrel looked as if he was trying very hard not to crack up into giggles too. The butterfly girl was looking at them with a disdainful look on her face, though Sirius was certain that he could see laughter gleaming in her eyes.
Frowning, he stuck his hand back through the curtain and tried to pull himself through the glue-like substance. Closing his eyes and shutting his mouth, he pushed both his hands through it until he could feel the edges of the archway on the other side. He felt like he was walking through jelly. It took a very long time but eventually his head felt air again.
Opening his eyes, he realised he had made it to the other side. Gripping tightly to the side of the arch, he pulled himself through and gasped in relief. He was back.
Glancing around the room, he realised that nobody was there. Shrugging, he walked up the steps and made his way home to Moony.
