Like two beads of Lapis Lazuli.

Prologue:

"Please be quiet, everyone."

A tick mark appeared on Iruka's forehead when the roomful of academy students completely ignored him. He decided to wait a little, to see whether they would notice his presence.

The babble went on.

He sighed, apparently not. He rolled his shoulders and relaxed his body before suddenly tensing and inhaling deeply, "IF YOU DON'T SHUT UP THIS INSTANT, I WILL MAKE YOU ALL CLEAN THE WASHROOMS FOR A MONTH!" This method, it seemed, was as effective as always.

There was a brief moment of chaos as everyone scrambled to their seats and turned to listen to their instructor. Iruka stood behind his desk for a while and waited for the class to be perfectly silent and attentive. He cleared his throat and said, "Good morning everyone. As I said several times before you all started paying attention, I have an announcement to make."

He looked up and was slightly startled to see a sea of curious eyes focused solely on him. He continued, "I know that the term is already halfway done but we have a new addition to our class. Please welcome Uzumaki Naru."

The door slid open softly and a girl entered and stood next to Iruka. She bowed a little and spoke in a soft, clear and smooth tone. "Hello everyone, I am Uzumaki Naru." She straightened and stood calmly, as if she were not at all affected by the gaping looks and envious stares of the students. Actually, the reactions were quite understandable. Seeing that Naru had the kind of exotic looks they had never seen in Fire country before. She was slender and fair skinned with rose gold waves tumbling down her back and electric blue eyes. In fact, her hair looked more like a beautiful mixture of blonde and red and managed to make her stand out like a sore thumb.

After a strange silence, it seemed that the atmosphere had gotten too uncomfortable and Naru began fidgeting a little with her toes. Sensing her predicament, Iruka chuckled and told Naru to have a seat next to a timid looking girl with dark bluish hair and pale eyes. As she slid into her seat, Naru caught the girl's eyes and smiled warmly. The girl tried to smile back before blushing furiously and looking down at her hands. The class continued on in excited silence until the bell for the lunch break rang.

While all the others had been sneaking glances at the new girl, one Nara Shikamaru had been stunned into wakefulness. Throughout the classes there was only one thought in his mind, 'Naru, what on earth are you doing here?'
