Two lovers lie in wait,
for when the dawn comes
upon them.
So they point at the stars,
fathoming lights into constellations.
Following in sluggish gait,
slowly goes time.
Past the misty hills
like ghosts in black,
mourning.
Across the seas
and over the mountains
A battle, too,
lies in wait
for the promise of sun
He lets his hand fall
unto the damp, cold earth.
As she watches,
and slowly, then at once-
she hits the ground, no stars, no breath
The horses rear frightened
as glory sings in all veins.
Both sides have teeth bared
in cries of lost victory
the ground stained not a speck
Too bright the sun is,
creeping over blank tombstones.
With baited breath they watch
gold blaze the skies;
one that cannot last, for there is black also
Silence, whispers,
soft reassurances, and the sea roars
Haloes of red, of
nothing at all.
And the match falls also, tip glowing
The grenades explode,
one by one, slowly, then at once.
No red stains the ground
yet there is an aching, lonely blue following time
and upon the tombstones they engrave
Uh, I bet that made about no sense. Everything is sort of symbolic, really pumped, so you might have to read it twice to really get it. Couple quotes from the book, kudos if you spot 'em.
Please review. This is the one time I've injected so much into a poem before.
