Her disclaiming of his love had truly brought him to his own end. Her words sharper than any sword could ever be, she taught herself denial of how she had killed him and now the words falling from her lips, of how she would rather die, than be with him, embedded themselves into his flesh. Pushing the verbal dagger further into him, into his heart as she told him she was going to marry his enemy and loved only the adversary.
The love he had for her spilling like quickened rivers of blood falling over into the sand and soaking it up as if had never existed. She had taken his heart from him and now commanded its will to live or die. He let his sword drop with deaf thunk to the ground. He fell to his knees his eyes still upon her as he allowed himself to be dragged under his own fallen blade by his enemy.
"Robin let him live he must stand trial." She begged.
"Finish it Hood I am ready to die." Guy said only partly believing himself.
"His blood is on your hands." Vasey yelled at Marian, who was being dragged by Little John to face the King, and as Guy looked up to see Marian his eyes stormed with agony and yearning he allowed himself to smile one genuine smile that quickly faded as Robin placed the blade onto his chest.
"Goodbye Marian." He rasped barely above a whisper. He closed his eyes as he waited for sword to come burrowing itself into his heart that was black as night, and drawn in with sin. He no longer feared death or pain. He knew he had gone on with his life in shame and unloved and now he'd die the same. No one to love and in disgrace he felt the cool rush of the metal slide into him, then the immediate heat of his blood as the withdrawn blade moved, twisting out of his chest.
Love was all he had wished for and received none. Love was the one thing that could have saved him. He still had his eyes closed as his heart shuddered trying to keep him alive, but he didn't want life, not anymore, he wanted love but that had been his undoing, his cage, and his executioner.
For love had killed him and saved him. He breathed again.
