Tohru wanders around Sohma house, looking for Momiji. Excitement shudders through her. It was his birthday, and she couldn`t wait to give him his present. Yuki and Kyo both helped to pick the present, and had mysteriously disappeared somewhere.
Since no one was there for some odd reason, she started to run off towards the east side of the estate, looking for Momiji. Rain had fallen the previous night, so the ground was still slightly slippery. She slips slightly but catches herself, thinking I need to be a little more careful. She slows herself down a little, reducing to a speed walk.
"Surprise, Tohru!" Momiji shouts, jumping out from behind a tree. The surprise knocks Tohru to the ground, which surprises Momiji, which surprises Yuki and Kyo (who were hiding behind the tree also), knocking Tohru to the ground. Kyo and Yuki both dive to stop her from falling in the mud, but it is too late. Momiji`s present flies up in the air and… gets caught by Momiji, who is surprisingly still standing.
"Are you all right, Tohru?" Kyo asks just as Yuki is saying, "Are you hurt, Miss Honda?"
"No, I`m all right." She said, rubbing her head. She gasped loudly because when she turns to look at them, they`re in animal form! They must have hugged her when they fell trying to save her. Yuki looks kind of bored in rat form and Kyo looks… like a ticked cat.
"Oh, I`m so sorry." Tohru says quietly, picking up Kyo and Yuki`s muddy clothes.
"Great, now look at what you did, rat boy. You went and upset Tohru!" Kyo spits at Yuki.
"It`s your own fault, kitty- cat. I didn`t want to surprise her. Are you sure you`re all right Miss Honda? Miss Honda?" Yuki says. He is looking curiously at Tohru, who is shaking. Shaking with laughter.
"It`s funny. It`s funny how much one little slip in the mud can be such a big deal." She is quietly chuckling when she starts to laugh louder. And louder. She laughs so hard she is almost rolling in the mud. Kyo smiles a small smirk and Yuki puts his little rat paw on Tohru`s knee.
"Come, Miss Honda. I believe we should be going back now."
Tohru`s laughter fades and she starts to get up. She turns to Momiji and says, "Sorry Momiji, I`ll get you a new present."
"Tohru, I needed that laugh. You don`t have to get me anything…. I want a hug, too!" Momiji throws himself at Tohru, arms open wide when Kyo catches him by the back of his shirt.
"You know better than that, rabbit- boy!" Kyo scolds Momiji.
"Indeed. What if someone was looking, Momiji?" Asks Yuki.
"But we`re on the property!" Wails Momiji.
Kyo and Yuki had changed into human form when Tohru wasn`t looking! Tohru starts apologizing profusely (although not as profusely as Ritsu) and hands over Kyo and Yuki`s clothes with her head down, embarrassment burning her face like a red, red tomato. Luckily, magic mist has settled in, so neither Tohru or anyone else saw anything. After the boys have gotten their clothes on, the four of them start to head back to Sohma house.
"Oh, by the way" says Tohru "Happy Birthday, Momiji"
"Best muddy birthday ever" mumbles Kyo.
