She didn't have an ulterior motive.
She didn't ask to stay over because she was lonely. And she sure as hell didn't do it for sex. It wasn't lust, desire, passion, or, God forbid, love. It wasn't to get a closer look at the large home she'd only seen from the driveway. And it wasn't even because of the shiver she'd had when he'd gently ran his hand up her spine and across her shoulder.
She knew it'd be awkward, she didn't need to be socially adept to understand that. She also knew it would be intense, as things often were these days. She knew he'd let her set the boundaries, but it wouldn't stop him from toeing the line with words and looks.
She wanted to stay over because she was scared. She felt like there were eyes everywhere, waiting to close in on her when she was alone. She wanted to stay over because she trusted him. She felt like he saw who she really was, and he accepted that. And she wanted to stay over because she was upset, truly shaken. And she felt safe with him.
She knew they were still trying to find their footing, to figure out how they fit together.. why they fit together.. when they would fit together. She knew she was giving up on ever being 'just friends'. She knew they were going to be something much more.
She wanted to give this a chance.
She knew he already had.
She didn't have an ulterior motive. Her overt motive was reason enough.
