Red to Blue, Blue to Red

The small room was silent and the corners filled with still and because of it being the middle of the night; only soft breathing could be heard coming from the covers of the bed. Misaki Suzuhara slept peacefully, unmoving and still, the only movement coming from the light rise and fall of her chest.

She was not alone.

In the darkness of the room, perched motionless and loyally like a guarding statue, was the pink headed angel, Hikaru. Unbeknownst to Misaki, Hikaru was very much awake, her soft fluffy pink eyes grazing over the serene face of her slumbering dues. There was no need for Hikaru to sleep. In fact, all human necessities were wasteful and redundant to her, as she was not even human herself. This was how she entertained herself ever night; guarding over her latent dues; checking to see that no bed bugs indeed came to bite.

Hikaru silently breathed from Misaki's pillow. Her mistress had never seen her alive or awake outside the layer and Athena had strictly told her it had to remain that way. Hikaru didn't argue. Her opinion of her adoptive mother was too high and respected to disagree or say otherwise. She herself watches over Shugo every night, guarding and watching like any other angel on the planet.

Hikaru enjoyed these guarding nights. Some could be surprisingly eventful and a few result in normal boring nights, not a stir from her mistress to worry about. But Sometimes, Misaki would seek the comfort of her mother, mostly in the case of a power-outage or a thunderstorm. Always slightly shaking with fear, she would hold Hikaru tightly to herself and curiously peek around the door to her mother's room.

These nights were specifically enjoyable to Hikaru, as she and her mother would have the opportunity to guard together and enjoy each other's company without leaving there deuses.

A small smile made its way up the red fighter's lips at the good memories she shared with Athena, and she gently rested a tiny hand on Misaki's ear lobe.

"Good night, Misaki," she whispered, getting no response from the snoozing teenager.

With a broadened smile and a loveable sigh, Hikaru gently and slowly stood up from the pillow, cautious not to disturb the rest of her human. Turning around until she faced the large nightstand, she saw Misaki's bright alarm clock read Midnight.

It was time.

Gracefully, without making the slightest of sound, Hikaru leaped from the pillow and suspended in the air for a second, until her soft feet hit the wooden surface. After a last backward glance at her dues, she turned back and with the same fluid motion as the last time, she leaped up unto the table, her feet not even thudding. She continued her journey across the spacious room, until she finally reached the top of Misaki's bookshelf and stood a mere foot away from the open window.

Without hesitating, Hikaru jumped out of the window and into the hot summer's night. She plummeted down a few more feet and then landed in the same catlike stance as the last and her balance perfected. She was now at the back of the house, only a back door surrounded by a tall white painted wall.

She wasn't even done dusting herself off, when she heard his smooth and bored voice from next to her.

"I win again," he announced lamely, leaning pompously against the wall, arms crossed, eyes furrowed and lips pulled into a frown.

"I can see you're ecstatic," his red companion stated, walking towards him with a light smile and large red eyes.

"Absolutely delighted," responded the blue angel, a bored, dull and sarcastic tone in his voice. He lifted his gaze from the ground to grin at his friend.

"Wizard," she acknowledged, stepping up to give him a greeting hug. After releasing him she looked up and gave him a genuine smile.

"How are you?" he asked her. He sat down on the ground and Hikaru followed his action, both leaning with their backs against the wall.

"I'm good," answered Hikaru, crossing he legs to sit more comfortable. "Misaki is sound at sleep."

Wizard snorted in response.

"Oujirou sleeps like a rock," he complained, furrowing his brow again. "World War Three can erupt from under his bed and he'd sleep through it all."

Hikaru laughed loudly, careful not to let her voice carry too far. It slightly echoed through the empty yard, not one stir bothering the night.

She and Wizard had been meeting each other every night for the past month, always taking turns at whose dues' house. At first sight, they had not been the best of friends, but ever since they had danced together, she's always considered one of her best friends.

"How is Icchan?" she asked him, looking up into the starless sky. It puzzled her, how some nights the sky would be breathtaking and other nights a mere mix of black and blue.

"Normal," he answered, following her gaze.

"That can't be good," muttered Hikaru from next to him. "What's going on?"

"He's still looking for a ring. Oujirou is trying to help but it still ensues into complete mayhem. He was still awake when I left the house."

"Oujirou, you mean?"

"No, Icchan."

Hikaru removed her eyes from the sky to look at her blue companion. She scrutinized him for a moment, taking in his appearance like she sometimes take in the stars.

His blue hairs, wild and sticking in different directions, made her want to flow her gloved fingers through it, still debating whether it stood that way naturally. With his coat, also blue of course, and approximately matching the shade of his hair, usually flowing behind him whenever he was standing up tall and proudly, he usually had her so badly hypnotized, she frequently caught herself staring at him, entranced. His eyes, holding a different kind of depth she never would have believed in, had she never met him.

He was like anther world to her, and it was a world she frequently liked to visit. She did not know why, but Hikaru felt it was a need to be constantly close to him, something she had never admitted to him. After a while of silence, he began to notice her stare and caught her eyes before she could look away. He held her gaze for a second before looking away with a smirk tugging at his face.

"Is something the matter?" asked Hikaru, half expecting him to inquire about the stare.

"No," he answered simply, shrugging his broad shoulders, "I am disappointed."

"Why?"

"There is no moon tonight," said Wizard gently, both the angels' heads rising to the heavens above.

"I prefer the stars," admitted Hikaru in the same soft voice.

They sat in silence, only enjoying the unspoken company of one another. There was no breeze or wind of any kind in the Suzuhara's backyard. No crickets or any other sound from nature at all. It was half eerie, but calm in a subtle way as well. After a few moments without speaking, Wizard stood up without warning. Hikaru looked up at him questioningly and he only held a hand out for her to take. Slightly curious by his silence, Hikaru took his hand and allowed him to gently pull her to her feet.

"Wizard?"

He did not let go of her hand, but only held on to it firmly. Hikaru did not pull away, but only stared into his deep eyes, entering a parallel universe once more.

"Hikaru?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, and Hikaru almost fainted at the intensity.

"Yes?" she whispered to him in the night.

"What do you think of me?" he asked, now holding Hikaru's entrapped hand in both of his. Hikaru pondered the thought for a moment.

There wasn't even a single bad thought she had about the angel standing in front of her. He was calm, collective and a gentleman. He was an angel of few words, but Hikaru preferred it that way. Somewhere, in the back of her mind, she knew there was more to this friendship than she gave credit for. Wizard always gave her these weird feelings in the inside of her stomach, causing fluttering butterflies to nearly burst out.

He was very attractive. Nothing more and nothing less; precisely the way she preferred him once again.

"Well," she began, reaching up with her free hand to stroke the collar of his jacket with her index finger, a flirtatious and playful look on her face. "Personally, I always thought you'd look better in red."

He grinned charmingly, taking Hikaru's free hand from his collar and lifted it to his face, placing a kiss on the back. Hikaru smiled, and felt the heat rise into her face.

"Funnily enough, I thought you'd look better in blue."

She laughed sweetly and he gave her a genuine smile, nearly causing her wings to pop out in excitement. He now held both her hands in his, remaining silent. She only drowned into the smile she so rarely saw him wear, half closing her eyes at the sensation of him looking at her.

"Are you tired?" he asked, the smile slightly disappearing.

"No," she answered in a dreamy voice, somewhat swaying her arms. "But I think I should go in now."

It was a considerably short visit, certainly one of their shortest yet. His smile went into a grin, and she reached up to hug him again. He held her closely, one hand spread across her back, and the other hooked around her waist. She was required to stand on her toes to reach up to him, so both hands were hooked around his neck for support.

The embrace continued for a few more hushed moments, until Hikaru finally loosened her grip to stand flat on her feet, and look Wizard in the eyes again. He did not let go, or slacken his grip at all, but merely held her close.

"Hikaru?"

"Hmmm?"

"Don't move."

"Why?"

"Just don't."

And before she could do anything else, Wizard slowly brought his head down, closed his eyes and kissed her softly, his lips only grazing the top of hers, before pulling away to stare into her flushed face.

Only a second of silence passed before both broke out into a broad smile.

"Good night Hikaru."

"Good night Wizard."

And she turned away to unravel her beautiful white feathery wings and flew up the wall and into Misaki's open window. When she landed on the window sill, she turned around, only to find Wizard missing and not where she left him. Among the grass, she could see a rustling in the lawn. She couldn't help but smile and softly touch her lips.

She got the feeling tomorrow night was going to be even better . . .

A/N: I woke up at 5 AM this morning with this idea. It's not a masterpiece and I've certainly done better, but I'll improve it over a course of time and put some more feeling and detail into it.

My original plan was to update my Sonic the Hedgehog story, but I just had to post this. Now I don't really have time left to do the other.

Please review, okay? And tell me if you spot any mistakes and I'll be more than happy to correct them. Also, if you're a Harry Potter or Pokémon fan, please feel free to check out my other one-shots. (Lord Voldemort meet Hitler, Lady of the Night [Mew and Mewtwo pairing], Zoey Redbird meets Bella Cullen)

Tell me if you want me to make this a longer fic. I could definitely think of a few ideas for future chapters.

I don't own Angelic Layer.

Thank you for reading and PLEASE REVIEW!! (Flames are MORE than welcome.)
