"Let your heart guide you..."
Her hands shook as she looked around the dark room, shaking her head as tears ran down her pale face. Her hands shook, a gun in her hands as she crept through the seemingly empty apartment.
She ran her fingers through her hair, trying to calm herself down, wishing her heart would stop beating so quickly as she tried to think of the best way to approach this situation. Her training told her to get out of there, call for backup – don't carry on. But her heart told her to save him, her heart screamed out for her to barge into the room she had heard noises from and shoot the mystery assailant.
She bit down on her lip, deep in thought, taking one more step forward, her eyes closing for a second as she put her hand on the door handle – she had to save him.
Her eyes were wide as she walked in, her gun aimed at the man killing her boss, murdering the man she loved. Her hands were shaking as she gasped a little, causing him to look up at her, she could hear him shouting for her to run as the man she knew as Foyet stood up, advancing towards her – it was now or never.
Hotch screamed her name just as the gun in her hands went off, leaving Foyet to fall to the ground. She stood there for what seemed like an eternity but in reality was only a few seconds, her breaths shallow as she tried to think of something else.
She looked over at Hotch, tears running down her cheeks as she ran to him, by his side quickly, her hand in his as she grabbed her phone. "It's going to be okay," She whispered to him, not wanting to look at the amount of blood dripping down onto the floor.
She smiled down at him, hanging up the phone after a few minutes. "Thank you." His voice cracked as he looked up at the woman he had been in love with for too long, "JJ?" He looked away for just a second, lifting up his hand weakly to place it on her burning cheek.
"Hotch." She bit down on her lip, their eyes meeting as she held her breath, "I-I love you." His chest rose slowly, his breaths becoming slower as his face paled impossibly more, she noticed the way his eyelids drooped a little, his speech slurring.
"I love you too." She smiled at him, hoping he could make it, looking over at Foyet – it was over. She shook her head, looking back at Hotch and sighing, "You're going to make it okay? And when you do, I am going to take you out for dinner in this place I love." He nodded a little, coughing up a small amount of blood.
Tears ran down her cheeks as she let her fingers dance along his cheekbones, "I am sorry I wasn't here sooner."
"It's not your fault." She nodded a little, biting down on her lip as she looked into his eyes, the eyes that held so much meaning to her, those eyes she had to stare into every day at work only to see the struggle behind them as he tried not to let it all effect him. He was only human.
"JJ?" He gave her a small smile, "Thank you for saving me – for saving everyone." She nodded, "Any time Hotch, any time." She grinned at him, laughing when he did. He was going to be okay.
"Even bad situations can turn into good ones."
A/N: My terrible one shot but I haven't written for Criminal Minds in ages, so I thought I would add something as I try to find the inspiration for a new story.
Review, or I will cry.
