Too many tears he had cried, his cheeks
Were marred with permanent tearstains.
His eyes blood shot from the effort, and
Swollen from the hours of rubbing them away.
Too many nights he had woken in screams.
His throat marred with permanent scars.
His voice lost, only a scratchy incoherent
Noise was left. Only a whimper of protest
Could escape from the broken body now.
Too many times had he stood out in the rain
Waiting for you to come back. Never had
he doubted the promise you had made,
The promise of your return, the promise that
You would never leave for good. That you
Would come back for him and make him whole.
Too many days had he pretended to be fine,
Until that one day he broke. His fragile mind
Shattered from that one letter that was never
Replied. That one letter that was gone
Forever. That one promise that was shattered.
That one hope that tried to stay alive.
You're gone forever, and so am I.
