The X-File freak in me could not help myself after tonight's episode. It was just positive GOLD.
Dedicated to Rachel who isn't a Castle fan but promised to read this one for the XF references.
Disclaimer: If I owned them I wouldn't have to write fanfic for them.
Kate Beckett was ready to fall over with exhaustion as she walked lazily down the hallway to Rick Castle's apartment that evening. She prayed to a God she had long ago stopped putting stock in that Gina wouldn't be there as she leaned heavily against the door frame and knocked against the off-white door mentally cursing the inhabitant of the apartment for getting inside of her head and keeping her from sleep once again. She heard him curse as he whacked his knee against the end table he refused to move anywhere else and a few more steps before he paused to look through the peep hole and undo the locks before opening the door, "Detective Beckett to what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Alexander."
"The great?" His brow furrowed adorably in confusion.
She sighed and ran a hand through her hair as she entered the apartment, "Penny Marchand had a dream about me. She said I would either know or meet a man with the name Alexander and that he would save my life. Change my life forever. Your middle name is Alexander."
"Alright," He closed the door and followed her into the apartment, "I'm with you but I don't see how this is bothering you."
Kate breathed as she sat down on the edge of the couch putting her head in her hands, "It's just... you told me that I should believe in the magic of it all... My mom was killed, Castle, my father became an alcoholic, and my entire world came crashing down and I'm some how supposed to put my faith in some sort of magic that doesn't even exist."
"It does exist, Kate," Castle's hand slid ever so slowly down her forearm as fingers encased the porcelain skin of her wrist, "it exists in your heart."
"Castle," She swiped at the tears she hadn't wanted to fall, "how do I believe in something I don't know is worth believing in?"
Wordlessly he pulled her into his arms, his lips pressing silent kisses to her hair as she cried against his chest. The dimly lit living room was silent bar the sound of Kate's soft sobs when they quieted he kept his grip on her and spoke softly, "I know just what you need."
"What's that?" She asked as she ignored her brain and snuggled into the crook of his arm her head resting on his chest as his fingers played with the ends of her hair. With his free hand he grabbed the remote and turned on a prerecorded episode of The X-Files and she couldn't resist a chuckle as she heard him calling her "Scully" in the recesses of her brain.
"I want to believe." She whispered into his ear and he smiled as the credits finished. They got lost in the episode and for just forty-five minutes escaped into the magic of Mulder, Scully, and the Great Mutato. By the time Cher was singing, Mulder and Scully were dancing, and time was freezing itself in black and white, Castle and Beckett were curled up on the ever too comfortable couch fast asleep.
Which is where Alexis found them in the morning. The teenager snapped multiple pictures on her cellphone sending them onto Lanie, her grandmother, Ryan, Esposito, and Gina. She then went to turn off the TV, shaking her head as she covered her father and his partner, "Who can fall asleep during Post-Modern Prometheus?"
