A Lily and James Songfic

"Lily, Look at me." James took her face in his hands and gently turned it towards him. They were standing near the door of The Order's base. She blinked back tears caused by the war that had started not an hour ago.

"Everything's going to change. The war has started and people are going to die. I'm going to fight, and I'll probably die as well, before this thing's over. I love you. I know I've been telling you this since fourth year, but it's true. I've never felt this way for anyone else. And although you chose to ignore it, I'm sure you feel something other than hatred for me, deep down."

"But I'm so scared. Scared of dying. Scared of losing those I love. Scared of… Just scared. And you're right, I do feel something, but I'm not sure what it is. The war has started, and it's going to be a long and hard one, but I'm willing to fight alongside you."

"Maybe I love you. I'm confused right now. But people I love are lost already. So many people have died, people I- we- knew as friends and comrades. Aren't you scared, too? She was close to a whisper now.

"More scared than I'll ever be, but not of the same things you are. Sure I'm scared of losing friends and family, but I'm not scared of death. I'm scared of dying and never knowing what it's like to kiss you, or never knowing what it's like to hold your hand in mine, and not be blown off or dissed. I want to die beside you, Lily. I want you to die, even if not in this war, with my ring on your hand." He knelt down on one knee.

"I don't know how to say this, but…"

"Will you marry me?" He had no ring, but he held her hands and looked solemnly into her eyes, his filled with so much emotion. She turned away, and then turned back. Their eyes met.

"I need you, James Potter. You give me strength and passion. I wish I had as much passion for living as you do." She pauses and wiped her eyes with force. He pulled her hand away and resumed, but gentler. As he stood, their eyes followed each others.
