Into the Ranger's Arms
Warning: SPOILER ALERT FOR BOOK 2-4
Will's thoughts as he finally hugged Halt after the long period in slavery and recovering from the warmweed.
Will was overcome with the happiness and joy as he saw his mentor before him with open arms. His shining face told the young apprentice he was safe, he would finally return home. As the young ranger rushed into Halt's open arms his emotions were mixed with the urge to cry and the overwhelming joy that took over him. As he those welcoming arms closed around him he felt satisfied, happy even though he was not yet home. He felt somehow safe with Halt, even in the most dangerous situations.
Of all he had been through, first ripped from Halt as he yelled after him on the beach, landing on Skorgihyl, taken to work in the yard at Skandia, the miserable life of slavery and warmweed, then escaping with Evenlyn and finally seeing Halt again, Halt wrapped him in his arms against the cold and told him it would be ok, they would go home. When he was lost, alone, scared, miserable, tired, cold, helpless, mindless, Halt now returned to him and reassured him.
Will didn't know yet that Halt would have been banished, never to return to Araluen, for him. He would give everything up for the chance of finding Will. He rolled the dice in a gamble for his life, to save his apprentice. He gave up his silver oakleaf, all for Will. Halt couldn't have known if his young apprentice was even still alive, but he did it anyway. He sacrificed as I father would for his side, as a mother would for her baby.
All the sacrifices boiled down to this. Will saved them from a devastating blow from Morgorath, and for payment, was captured and tortured as a yard slave. Halt, had purposely gotten banished and gave his life up, to find Will. Evenlyn helped Will escape and in return Horace saved her, but it wasn't even close to compare with the sacrifices Will and Halt made. And in the end, they found each other again. And, as Halt said, It was all gonna be ok.
Hope you guys liked it!
