Sarah Becker was going home for the break. It had been a long term at uni and she couldn't wait to get home and see her parents. There was one small problem with this... Her father. Captain Becker was not the most trusting person so when he heard his 20 year old daughter was bringing her boyfriend home for the holidays he wasn't the happiest about it. Jess Becker on the other hand could not have been happier, she was a hopeless romantic and couldn't wait to meet the man that had stolen her daughter's heart.
When the day arrived and Sarah Becker stood on the doorstep of the house she grew up in, the welcome her boyfriend got was exactly as expected. The bone crushing hug and the look of disdain were exactly as described by the 20 year old to James Lockwood."Hil" Jess warned her protective husband as they entered to lounge.
As soon as everyone was sat down the inquisition started. "So James what is it that you study?" Asked Becker. Having already been warned about Becker's job and personality, James answered quickly and with a tone of respect for the older man "I'm studying medicine, Sir". "And what is it you intend to do after university?" Sarah glanced at her mother and rolled her eyes, Jess raised her eyebrows in agreement and hit Becker on the shoulder. But James was ready for the question and again answered with a tone of respect "I'm not entirely sure yet sir, but potentially a research scientist".
"What are your intentions with my daughter?" Sarah spat out the mouthful of tea she had just taken and Jess gave her husband another glare but honestly she expected nothing less, Becker's military training meant he turned anything into a interrogation given the chance. Jess knew how protective he was over their only child and she found herself laughing quietly at his bluntness. "I intend to protect her and look after her in every way I possibly can sir, your daughter is so special to me and if I was to lose her I don't know what I would do. She means the world to me and I intend to show her that everyday for the rest of my life". Jess' eyes filled with tears at the speech just made, it was similar to the one Becker had made the day after the convergence when he admitted his feelings for her and the one he made as he proposed
Becker faintly smiled at the response, the boy reminded him of Connor in several ways but also himself he couldn't show he approved just yet, he had a reputation to protect. "What do your parents do?"
After another 40 minutes of interrogating Becker asked one final question "have you ever been shown how to use a gun?" Jess smiled at her husband and hugged him tightly, which he returned even tighter kissing the top of her head (he may have been an emotional retard 25 years ago but Jess had changed him). Sarah turned to face James, a huge smile which she had inherited from her mother across her face "that means you've passed" she whispered.
2 weeks later and Sarah and James were leaving to go back to university. Jess hugged both of them tightly, making them promise to visit again soon, but what was least expected was for Becker to do the exact same. He may of been trained to interrogate and shoot but he knew that James would care for his daughter as much as he did.
