When Kerrington Coopers mother decides it's time to take a family vacation to Florida, Kerrington is more then angry. But a misprinted plane tickets land them on a island in the remote Outer Banks for the summer. North Carolina isn't anything like New York, Kerrington's home state. But her troubled mother is too busy popping pills and trying to win back her creepy ex-boyfriend to care.
Things brighten up for Kerrington when she meets some local prep school boys. Kerrington gets swept into their exciting fantasy lives but is knocked back into reality after witnessing a murder. Kerrington begins to wonder if the people who clam to have her back really are her friends. With a hurricane approaching, and the island cut off from the outside world, Kerrington has no one to turn to but herself . . . and whether she'll live to see another summer is the biggest mystery of all.
