AN: Welcome to my very first fanfiction. A few things to note: Link defeated Ganon already, this does not take place during a reincarnation cycle not covered by the games. Lastly, Link will have some but not all tools from Ocarina of Time.
Chapter 1: First Meetings
Link, the hero of Hyrule and bodyguard to Princess Zelda of the royal family, was out of all things curious. He was called before the king of Hyrule. As Link approached the throne room, he was wondering why the king called for him, he had done nothing wrong. As he approached the large oak doors, they swung open as if on their own accord (they obviously opened from the inside). The king, with a long grey beard with specks of white in his royal blue robes, sat upon his throne with a straight back. Link walked up to the throne and knelt before the king.
"Rise, Link." Spoke the strong deep voice of the king. As Link rose from his kneeling position the king continued, "I have called you here because explorers have returned from across the sea with tales of civilizations." He paused to gauge Links reaction he only received slight curiosity. "Upon this news, my daughter, Zelda, has requested to go and research these civilizations as a representative of Hyrule. A request I have reluctantly granted." Link didn't need to be a genius to figure out where this was going. "As her sworn shield I am sending you with her for protection." Not at all shocked by this declaration, Link only nodded in reply. "You leave for your journey tomorrow morning, that is all." Not needing to be told twice by the king, Link spun on his heel and left the throne room to return to his chambers to prepare for the journey.
/Time skip to the next morning\\
Link sat atop his horse, Epona, in his usual green tunic with chain mail he rode next to Zelda in her riding clothes (BoTW styled) as they started their journey. First stop, the dock to them across the seas. The princess currently was expressing her excitement "I can't wait to see the animals and nature of this strange land. Are you Link?" She asked looking next at him. He nodded in response with a small smile on his face at watching the princess ramble. "Just think of all the interesting people we will meet." She continued. Link personally thought he wouldn't meet anyone more interesting than all the people of different races he met while saving the world. He also thought he wouldn't meet anyone more beautiful than the princess herself.
/Time skip 3 weeks\\
The ship the royal party were on slowly approached the docks of a large city. Large with an understatement, some buildings stood as tall or taller than the tallest tower of Hyrule Castle. "Wow!" Breathed the princess breathed while pushing a lock of golden hair out of her eyes. Link could only agree, for he never dreamed of seeing buildings this big. He then turned his attention to the people strolling the streets, looking any threat to the princess. That's when he noticed a group of girls were brightly colored clothes that matched their hair were observing there. Standing on the street above. As the ship docked, he climbed off first before the princess disembarked the ship. "Well, Link where should we start our research?" He honestly could only shrug in reply. "Fine. I'll figure it out myself!" She huffed. Link chuckled at her antics.
"Maybe we should ask those colorful people up there." Link said pointing out the colorful people from earlier.
"Good idea link." She replied.
/Team RWBY POV\\
Team RWBY was enjoying an afternoon in Vale when Weiss practically forced everyone to go to the docks. "Someone remind me again why we're spending our Friday afternoon visiting the stupid docks," Yang said.
"They smell like fish." Ruby groaned while holding her nose.
"I heard students from Vacuo will be arriving by ship today. And as a representative of Beacon, I feel as though it's my solemn duty to welcome them to this fine kingdom." Weiss told the group.
Blake was opening her mouth to say something when Ruby interrupted her, "Woah guys look at that ship." She said while pointing at a ship. Said ship in question was an old fashion wooden ship with sails.
"I wonder where it's from," Yang stated to the group.
"Well whoever they are they clearly haven't got the memo that wood and sails are severely ineffective nowadays," Weiss stated in a judgmental fashion.
"They might be from a poor town by the sea." Blake tried to reason.
"Guys look people are getting off," Ruby said bringing their attention to a young man, around 17, wearing a green tunic, chain mail, a sword, and shield disembarking the ship. Only to step aside for a Women around the same age as the man also disembarking. While she only wore a blue blouse and brownish pants, an outfit clearly for traveling, she gave off an air of royalty.
"Their outfits don't look poor." Yang pointed out. The group watched as the man and the women conversed briefly. During which the women visibly let out a huff of annoyance and the man laughed. Then the man made a gesture in their direction.
"Uh oh, they saw us!" Ruby said with a hint of panic of worry.
"Why are panicking Ruby? Watching people who are in public isn't weird." Yang stated.
"Yang, you made it sound weird." Blake pointed out.
"All of you shut up! We were curious that's all." Weiss hissed at them. As the group of four was arguing they didn't notice the two people they were discussing walk upon them.
/Link & Zelda POV\\
Link and Zelda started making their way up the path to the colorful group they could hear the tail end of a conversation. "All of you shut up! We were curious that's all." Scratch that, an argument.
"Hello…" Zelda started to introduce herself, but before she could the group all jumped back, in a comical fashion, yelping in surprise.
"Uh, hello," said the girl in red.
"My name is Zelda, I'm afraid my friend and I are a little unfamiliar with this city can you help us?" Zelda asked the group.
"Sure!" the girl in red said excitedly.
"No," a girl in white said with zero emotion.
"Weiss what do you mean no?" the red girl asked her white themed friend.
"I mean we don't even know them, so why should we help them?" the now named, Weiss asked. Link could only raise an eyebrow at how rude she was.
"Their lost, and it's called being nice." A yellow themed girl said.
"Fine," Weiss responded.
"Hello, my name is Ruby, the cold one is my friend Weiss, the yellow one is my sister Yang and the dark and mysterious one is Blake. And together we make team RWBY" Ruby said while pointing at each girl respectively and then holding he fist in the air. "What's your name?" she asked looking at me.
"Link."
As soon as we finished introductions someone in the distance yelled. "Hey stop that faunas!" the whole group turned and saw a man wearing blue pants and an open white shirt, running down the dock. After he messed with two cops for a second, he continued running and was passing our group of six. Link took his chance and tackled him to the ground. Unfortunately, he knocked Link off him and quickly continued running. Scowling he prepared to give chase.
"Link wait," Zelda said making him and the four girls pause and look at her. "He's not worth the chase." Link sighed and nodded his head. Silence fell, no one knew what to say
"So where are you guys from?" Ruby asked breaking the silence.
"A small place far away," Zelda replied.
"How far?" Yang asked.
"Very, very far," Zelda answered. Link was starting to wonder why she was avoiding the questions. "You said together you all makeup team RWBY. What does that mean?" She asked veering away from talking about themselves.
"We are all huntresses-in-training at Beacon Academy, our initials R, W, B, Y spell RWBY (pronounced Ruby)," Ruby explained.
"What's Beacon Academy?" Zelda asked.
"How can you not know about Beacon?" Weiss asked in a sort of snobbish sort of tone. Link was really starting to not like her.
"We come from very far away," Zelda answered. Ruby looked down at her watch.
"AH! Guys, we have to catch the last shuttle soon. Zelda, Link it was nice meeting you. Maybe we'll see you around." Ruby said very quickly and her team rapidly departed.
"Well, they were interesting," Zelda said looking at Link. he chuckled thinking that was putting it lightly.
/Team RWBY POV\\
Team RWBY barley made to the last bullhead to Beacon before it left. As they sat on the empty shuttle Yang broke the silence. "Did those guys seem off to you?"
"Who?" Ruby asked.
"Zelda and Link that's who, you dunce." Weiss to Ruby's question, who replied with 'Oh'.
"They did seem off," Blake said. "Zelda avoided answering where they were specifically from."
"Link also only talked once." Yang said, after a moment of thinking, "plus they had weird ears."
"They're probably faunas, that's why they let that one rapscallion get away," Weiss replied. This set Blake off and the argument ensued (just like the show).
/Ozpin POV\\
Professor Ozpin sat in his office looking at a device, showing street camera views, contemplating the video of two strange visitors. They arrived and an outdated ship, with no previous knowledge of Beacon or Vale. The female gave off an aura of royalty, and the male gave off an aura power and strength. Ozpin had a feeling he needed to talk to these new visitors.
