Luna Lovegood didn't want to be wealthy or beautiful. She didn't want to be smart or popular, she didn't want her classmates to stop teasing her or for them to stop calling her "Loony Lovegood".
No, Luna wanted one thing and one thing only. To see her mum again even if it was only for one minute.
Just to see her smile or hear her laugh, to be able to see her and hug her one last time. To be able to say "I love you" just one more time.
That's all she had desired since her mum had died, but she never said it out aloud. No, she whispered it in her mind every night as she drifted off to sleep; in the hope that when she woke she'd get the one thing she wanted more than anything.
The moment she opened her eyes when she woke she always half expected to see her mum, but she never did.
Sometimes she'd say it was because she didn't want it enough and that's why didn't happen, but she knew that wasn't true. She desired to see her mum more than anyone in the Wizarding world and the Muggle world combined had ever wanted anything.
She'd give up everything she had, she'd walk bare feet across the world to see her mum again. She'd never use magic again even there were a hundred Death Eaters with their wands aimed at her, she still wouldn't use magic if it meant seeing her mum.
That's how much she wanted to see her one more time, just for one minute.
Luna's desire wasn't selfish, it wasn't not selfish like wanting world peace or something like that.
No, what she desired was one minute with her mum.
