It had rained very heavily, the night before. Now, the backyard was a mess! There were puddles and mud patches all around it.
Greg stood at the sliding glass door and looked at it in awe. His oldest sister Marcia came by.
"Hi. Look at this."
She looked. "Wow!"
"Say, I've got a crazy idea!"
"What?"
He opened the door and walked on the patio. Then he quickly took his sneakers and socks off and rolled his pants legs up. Then he walked into the wet grass!
"Gregg!"
"This feels neat!" He tramped around a bit. "Say, why don't you join me?"
She smiled. "All right!"
She walked to the patio and took her sandals off. (She wore a short dress.) Then she also walked into the wet grass.
"This DOES feel neat!"
"Look at this:"
He walked into a mud puddle. Then he lifted his muddy left foot up to show her.
She smiled. "I can do that, too!"
She also walked into a puddle and lifted up her muddy left foot.
He smiled. "Cool!"
They continued walking around in the grass.
Suddenly, their mom walked to the door! Seeing her two oldest kids barefoot in the mud, she went to the patio.
"What are you two up to?"
They looked at her in fear!
"I'm sorry, Mom," said Greg. "It was my fault. I got the idea to do this."
"Stand right there, I'll be right back."
She went in the house.
"Sorry, Marcia."
"It's OK, Gregg."
She came back with two towels.
"Wipe your feet off, when you're done. And try not to fall in!"
She started to leave.
"Hey, Mom," said Gregg, "Why don't you join us?"
She turned around. "Join you?"
"Yeah, this is fun!"
"It is, Mom!," said Marcia.
She smiled. "I'm wearing pantyhose—but why not!"
She slipped her shoes off and walked into the wet grass. As soon as she did this, she smiled.
"Far out!"
The three of them stomped in the mud for a few minutes, then walked onto the patio. There, they wiped their feet off and put their shoes back on.
"You're the coolest Mom in the world!," said Gregg.
"Yeah, Mom," said Marcia.
"Thanks, guys! Let's go back in, now."
