A/N:Hello! Before you start reading, just know that this is a genderbent AU. Personalities and situations are still the same, just, y'know, genderbent. The only thing that's different is where Zim locates and GIR isn't there (I personally don't like GIR and he wouldn't be contributing to the story much anyway). Also, it's going to start off kinda slow, but it will get more quick-paced and there will be A LOT of traumatizing events and some of them WILL be graphic so please just keep that in mind. Please leave some reviews!
In the early-June night, the cicadas sang their song through the humid wind that whispered warnings of rain. A few sprinklers that were left of contributed to the symphony along with the sound of cars passing through the City, reaching a more interesting destination.
Inside of the Membrane household, siblings Dib and Gaz sit on the couch in the living room, the former watching old reruns of Mysterious Mysteries on the television and the latter engrossed in playing games on his GameSlave2. Neither paid much attention to the other.
When the commercials began, Dib looked at the phone in her lap to see if her dad had said anything about when he would be home. She checked her texts and call history, but there was nothing.
She let out a defeated sigh. Professor Membrane was home for a total of maybe 10 hours a week, and most of that time is spent in his laboratory in the basement. Tonight, he was supposed to be home around 7 P.M. so that the three of them could go out to eat as a family, but was well past 10 P.M.
"Do you want me to call in a pizza or something?" She asked with a frown.
Gaz let out a grunt that she interpreted as a 'yes'.
She picked up her phone again and began to dial Bloaty's.
BOOM!
Dib stood up, startled by the booming noise, but fell back on the couch as the ground shook violently. Was there an earthquake?
A bright flash of red hues from outside flooded the room. The ravenette quickly got back up and ran to the window to see where the light was coming from.
"What do you think that was, Gaz?" Dib glanced over to her brother, who was either too invested in his video game to listen or purposefully ignoring her.
She rolled her eyes before sprinting up the stairs to her room so she could gather equipment to investigate. There was no way that she was just going to sit around like everyone else and pretend that nothing was going on. Surely it was something paranormal!
Once in her room, Dib carefully navigated over and around the piles of dirty clothes and skewed papers on the floor and maneuvered to her alien-shaped backpack, then began to fill it with various objects: flashlight, notepad and pens, thermal camera, voice recorder, pocket knife, wipes for her glasses, mini umbrella and her portable charger. In one swift move she managed to slip off her pajamas and filtered through the hamper of clean clothes. She settled with a skirt and her dad's old Stanford sweater with an oversized denim jacket to protect her back pack from the coming rain.
After she was sure that she had everything, she pulled on her boots and snuck out through her window. She tightly gripped onto the edge of her windowsill and when she was sure she was prepared for the drop, let go and darted in the direction where she saw the light.
