All I Want for Christmas
A Death Note oneshot
By PathWalker
L sat at his computer one cold december night, staring at a blank piece of paper. He had not done this in years: Since he had been a small boy at Whammy's House to be more precise. Still, he felt the situation called for it.
Dear Santa,
I know you're extra busy this time of year, but I have a special request.
I haven't asked for a Christmas present since I was eight, but this year there's something I want REALLY bad. Its all I can think about, but I can't get it. I think you already know what it is. I have been a good boy for many years as your hidden surveilance cameras will prove, so please get it for me. If you can't, strawberry truffles will be fine.
Happy Christmas,
L
P.S.- I won't eat you cookies this year. Promise.
L had no worries Sanata wouldn't know who it was from- he had always signed his letters that way. Sealing his letter, the genius headed for the post office. Normally this was a task for Watari, but it felt wrong to send someone else to mail his letter to Santa.
The wait in line was endless, but L felt it was all worth it when the post lady asked for his letter.
"The North Pole? Oh, you're sending it for your son?"
"No, its mine." he answered with little enthusiasm. The post lady just stared. "How long does it take a letter to reach the North Pole, if its not marked as priority?"
Again the lady just stared.
"Aren't you a little old to believe in Santa?" Asked a man behind him.
"No."
He turned his attention back to the post lady, awaiting her answer.
"Oh! Uh, a week, maybe two?"
"I'd like it shipped priority mail."
The post lady silently took the letter, still confused.
"I hope it reaches his under water worshop in time." L muttered as he began to leave.
"Under water workshop?" The man in line echoed.
"Of course. A man would find it very difficult to survive on those frozen deserts, but beneath is vast space filled with life with harsh elements. The logical answer is that Santa's workshop is in a base somewhere under the frozen tundra."
With that, L walked out.
---
L awoke Christmas day relatively early. It was only six am, and the man stayed in bed, in case Santa wasn't quite through with his yearly journey.
Maybe I shouldn't have gone to bed so early, thought the detective, his toes wiggling under the sheets. He waited anither hour before finally getting up.
"Watari! He came! He Came!"
The old man rushed up to find L, jumping excitedly around the Christmas tree he had bought the night before. Beneath it, was Light Yagami, tied and gagged in ribbons, with a note that said "I'm Kira" pinned to his shirt.
"I knew Santa would be able to find him."
