This is a small one-shot from an AU of mine, Evan Potter is my character, the daughter of Lily and James Potter and Harry's twin sister. I just thought one day about what Snape would think seeing Harry for the first time, and adjusted it a bit.

"That'll be 10 points from Gryffindor for cheek Ms.?"

"Potter sir, Evan Potter.

Evan saw several expressions cross Snape's face at once.

Of course he should have known, looking at this girl, this hybrid of what he loved and hated most in the world. He could see in written plainly across her features now. Her eyes were that brilliant green, challenging, kind, intelligent. But there was that mischief in her eye, the faint mark of a smile that was inherited from a prankster, and that had taken all he loved from him.

Her hair was a horrible combination of them as well. It was a dark, deep red, caught in between bright red black.

The way that she sat in her chair even caused him pain. She held the eager posture of Lily, intent on a lesson, and the unattainable grace and confidence of James Potter.

And the way she acted with her friends, laughing, joking, so like James.

Then he remembered why he was deducting points, that clumsy oaf Longbottom had spilled his books all over the ground. The Slytherins hadn't stopped for him, but simply trodden over them, intent on marking their superiority from the beginning. It was a painful reminder of his own first day.

He was a outcast in Slytherin because of his poor background, unpleasant look and beat up possessions. The Gryffindors had treated him no better, sneering and laughing. He had been alone and weak. Lily had been his friend, his only friend. She didn't think twice about stereotypes, and chose to only see the good side of him. She despised nothing more than a bully.

And this girl before him had rushed forward to help the clumsy boy. She had smiled, helped him collect his belongings, and even sat down next to him.

But when she had tried to explain this to him, what was he doing, sneering and subtracting points. For the way she had acted.

And so Snape simply turned away without a glare or another word, for perhaps there was more of Lily Potter still alive than he had thought, and maybe it could do a whole lot of good in the world.

And if it could, Severus Snape was going to make sure Lily's daughter could do it. He would help her and protect her with his own life, it was the only thing that he could still give to Lily.

There you go, a short AU I had bouncing around in my head for awhile. Let me know what you think!
