The door of the Leroy mansion snapped open revealing a man and a woman. The man 's breath was ragged as he tried to lift a bag with much effort, cursing his physique which he seemed to do a lot that day. His cheek burnt by the sudden onslaught of rain drops which seemed to hav started the moment he stepped out. He brought up a hand to soothe the pain, a parting gift from his dear secretary.
"You are the worst" her words shot out, he was stunned by the venom in her voice more than the stinging pain in his face.
His counterpart as she called herself came near him as he settled the bag in the back seat.
"Are you sure about this? You do know you are walking into a trap, right?" she asked
He could tell she did not want him to go. He turned to face her and was surprised to see something he rarely saw in her eyes 'worry'. With the rain falling so hard he couldn't be sure if she let out a few tears. Had the situation not been so grim he would have given a smile happy about her concern. She brought a hand slowly to his cheek and caressed it.
"Be careful" she said giving a sad smile.
He took her hand in his, surprised at first how cold her hand was and pulled her in for a hug. He knew they both needed it to be prepared for what was to come. It had been a while since he was in her embrace making it difficult for him to let go but he had to leave and fast.
"I'll be back" he said with all the confidence he could muster, nevertheless his voice still shook, before slowly letting go of her, and resisting a severe ache in his heart to just go back into her arms.
"Wait" he heard her cry as he was getting in and turned, he felt the familiar velvet touch of her lips against his. It lasted only for a few seconds but by the time they moved back both had smiles on their faces.
"Don't screw up" she said with the all knowing smirk on her face.
"When do I ever?" he replied tucking his seatbelt with an innocent smile before starting the car to head off to where she was. He had several million dollars in the bag behind him, which was asked of him to set her free. They were most likely to take the money and kill them both off. He knew only he was to blame for what was happening, and what he most regretted was getting her involved. He remembered how it all started, how he started his venture into a new life telling himself it was for a greater good.
He needed to get there within an hour which meant he couldn't pay much heed to the traffic lights leaving frenzy at the junction he just sped through. His hands were shivering either with the cold due to the rain or he was just frightened, he wasn't sure. Right now the only thing on his mind was ensuring her safety. With that he further accelerated.
I'm coming..Shirley.
