AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is my first fanfic ever, so be gentle please? Constructive criticism is definitely welcome. Sorry it's so short! Reviews too please?

"Mr. Castle, Detective Beckett, my office. Now," Gates' voice rang through the precinct

"And there goes the magic of Valentine's Day," Castle whispered to Beckett as they went to meet their fate.

Gates slammed the door to her office. "Did you think that I, of all people, would be…OK with this?"

"Sir, I can explain-" Beckett began.

"Really? 'Katherine Houghton Beckett, you are beauty, passion, and fierce intellect. Be my valentine. Rick' "

"I…wasn't thinking?" Castle ventured.

"No, you weren't. And did you think I wouldn't pick up on your little relationship? I used to be a detective. I notice changes," Gates lectured.

"Does this mean I'm being kicked out?" asked Castle with a whimper in his voice.

"Well…no. Technically, you're not coworkers. Mr. Castle isn't part of the NYPD, so there's no need to enforce that particular rule. However, I do expect you to keep it strictly professional here at the precinct," finished Gates. Castle and Beckett both breathed huge sighs of relief. That had gone better than they had ever imagined. "Now, you two have a happy Valentine's Day. Good night."

"Castle, did that just really happen?" whispered Beckett.

"She must not hate me anymore!" Castle practically screamed.

"I heard that, Mr. Castle. I still hate you!" Beckett burst out laughing.

"Kate, will you? Be my Valentine?"

"Of course. Now, get your things and we'll head back to my place."
