You know, when you've loved something since you were about eleven, it's really time that you at least offer a drabble.

It could be Ocarina of Time, it could be Link to the Past, it could even be Smash Bros. I just think that there's something between the two, even though I sincerely doubt that either one of them would act upon it.

It was such a fragile thing, whatever it was that existed between them. It was beyond their destined meeting, beyond their quiet friendship, yet to speak of it out loud- to utter that single word- would shatter it. There was something forbidden to it, though neither knew why. They just knew that they shouldn't.

And yet, neither one of them could bring themselves to end the sad little tangle of silent hopes and gentle adoration between them. They knew that the other felt the same giddy feeling that they did when they shared a smile, and the same thumping heart when their gazes locked.

They were happier pretending that they weren't in love than they would be fighting to protect it anyway, so it remained unspoken. It could never be a promise. It couldn't even be a dream. Their roles were made all too clear and they had duties of far more importance than themselves to uphold.

And yet Zelda knew that for the rest of her life, she would need Link by her side. As her valiant knight, as a trusted friend, and as a powerful ally, but never as her Prince.

A chill wind nipped at her skin, as if the Goddesses were chastising her for her wandering thoughts. Zelda reflexively moved to rub at her arms, the movement drawing Link's attention from where he had previously stared out across the landscape towards Death Mountain.

He offered her a soft smile, though weariness lingered in his eyes.

Still, Zelda found herself smiling back.
